Meta AnalysisIsolated trochleoplasty for recurrent patellar dislocation has lower outcome and higher residual instability compared with combined MPFL and trochleoplasty: a systematic review.
To identify the efficacy of isolated trochleoplasty (TP) as an independent treatment for severe trochlear dysplasia compared with TP combined with medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction. ⋯ Trochleoplasty is a useful and reliable surgical technique to improve patellofemoral instability in patients with a dysplastic trochlea. However, it as isolated treatment for patients has lower outcome and higher residual instability compared with combined MPFL and trochleoplasty.

Review Meta AnalysisBetter outcomes with patellar resurfacing during primary total knee arthroplasty: a meta-analysis study.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a feasible and cost-effective procedure. However, resurfacing of the patella sparks a heated debate. Anterior knee pain after TKA was supposed to be correlated to the patellofemoral joint, and the resurface of the patella was believed to be effective to avoid this complication. ⋯ Level II, meta-analysis of prospective clinical trials.

Review Meta AnalysisFusion rates for odontoid fractures after treatment by anterior odontoid screw versus posterior C1-C2 arthrodesis: a meta-analysis.
For odontoid fractures, surgical treatment approaches including anterior odontoid screw fixation approach and the posterior C1-C2 arthrodesis approach are generally adopted in practice. However, the choice of different surgical procedures remains controversial. In addition to surgical technique, the fusion rate is an important factor contributing to the clinical efficacy. Therefore, this study was aimed to investigate the discrepancy in fusion rate between these two surgical approaches through synthesizing the currently available evidence on the topic. ⋯ Elderly patients (≥ 60 years) underwent posterior C1-2 arthrodesis fixation shows higher fusion rates in developed countries comparing with patients who underwent anterior odontoid screw fixation. Overall, there is no significant discrepancy between these two surgical approaches. However, the conclusion should be verified by further study enrolling larger sample size.

Review Meta AnalysisIntra-articular injection of mesenchymal stem cells for clinical outcomes and cartilage repair in osteoarthritis of the knee: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have gained popularity for articular cartilage repair. However, efficacy of intra-articular MSCs in osteoarthritis remains unclear. In the setting of a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), we aimed to investigate the efficacy of intra-articular MSCs on clinical outcomes and cartilage repair in patients with knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ Systematic review of Level-II studies.

Meta AnalysisIs intravenous tranexamic acid effective and safe during hip fracture surgery? An updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
The efficacy and safety of intravenous (IV) tranexamic acid (TXA) during hip fracture surgery remain controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the efficacy of IV-TXA administration during hip fracture surgery for reducing the transfusion requirement and blood loss as well as its safety regarding the risk of thrombolysis. ⋯ Available evidence indicates that IV-TXA efficaciously reduces TBL and transfusion requirements during hip fracture surgery without significantly increasing the risk of TTEs including DVT.
