Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudySurgical hip dislocation versus hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement: clinical and morphological short-term results.
Surgical hip dislocation (SHD) is an accepted standard to treat femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). However, arthroscopic techniques have gained widespread popularity and comparable results are reported. The purpose of this prospective comparative study was to test the hypothesis that, when compared to SHD, hip arthroscopy (HA) results in faster recovery, better short-term outcome, and equivalent morphological corrections. ⋯ When compared to SHD, HA results in faster recovery and better short-term outcome. However, some overcorrection of the cam deformity and limited frequency of labrum refixation with HA in this study may have a negative impact on long-term outcome.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyPercutaneous distal metatarsal osteotomy versus distal chevron osteotomy for correction of mild-to-moderate hallux valgus deformity.
A lot of procedures were described for managing hallux valgus deformity. Percutaneous metatarsal osteotomies have received increasing recognition in the previous decade. The proposed benefits revolve primarily around the shorter surgical time, lower incidence of complications, and higher patient satisfaction. However, there is insufficient evidence to determine whether this technique is comparable to traditional open approaches. ⋯ The results of this study support the idea that percutaneous distal metatarsal osteotomy yields good functional and radiological result and is associated with a high degree of postoperative patient satisfaction.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyPrecision of novel radiological methods in relation to resurfacing humeral head implants: assessment by radiostereometric analysis, DXA, and geometrical analysis.
Resurfacing humeral head implants (RHHI) are used to preserve bone stock and restore normal anatomy in the osteoarthritic shoulder joint. The purpose of this study was: (1) to describe the use of novel radiological methods in relation to evaluation of RHHI; (2) to estimate the precision of these methods; and (3) to present preliminary clinical and radiological results at 6 months follow-up after Copeland and Global Cap RHHI. ⋯ Radiostereometric analysis and DXA can be used for evaluation of RHHI, but expectedly with a lower precision as compared to standards of TKA or THA. Geometric analysis of the prosthetic shoulder is precise. We interpret that the early radiological and clinical results of the two RHHI are comparable.

Randomized Controlled TrialClinical evaluation of the stability of single-segment short pedicle screw fixation for the reconstruction of lumbar and sacral tuberculosis lesions.
The routine surgical approach to posterior reconstruction in spinal tuberculosis is short- or long-segment fixation and/or fusion. This method sacrifices movement at more than one vertebral level, limits normal movement of the spinal column, and leads to degeneration of the small joints of the adjacent levels. Surgical techniques that reduce the number of fixed vertebral levels and maximize the retention of movement of the spinal column are of current interest in the treatment of spinal tuberculosis. ⋯ Single-segment pedicle screw fixation and correction surgery can fix and fuse the diseased segment in lumbar and sacral tuberculosis, retain normal movement in the adjacent spinal column, and promote functional recovery of the spinal column postoperatively. It was be regarded as a cost-effective means of treatment with lumbar and sacral tuberculosis.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyTape versus cast for non-operative treatment of primary patellar dislocation: a randomized controlled trial.
We hypothesized that taping results in better short-term functional outcome and comparable redislocation rates. ⋯ Tape bandage immobilization seems superior to a cylinder cast even after 5 years.
