Review Case ReportsExternal iliac artery thrombosis following open reduction of acetabular fracture: a case report and literature review.
Postoperative thrombosis of the external iliac artery (EIA) following open reduction and internal fixation for acetabular fracture is extremely rare. ⋯ It is very important for surgeons to consider EIA thrombosis as a potential complication following open reduction and internal fixation. In this case, EIA thrombosis could be explained by preoperative atherosclerotic changes and intraoperative vascular handling procedures. Preoperative screening and management, and meticulous surgical procedures are necessary for patients with a high risk of thrombosis.

Multicenter StudyDetecting scaphoid fractures in wrist injury: a clinical decision rule.
The aim of this study was to develop and validate an easy to use clinical decision rule, applicable in the ED that limits the number of unnecessary cast immobilizations and diagnostic follow-up in suspected scaphoid injury, without increasing the risk of missing fractures. ⋯ 1/(1 + EXP (-(0.649662618 × if man) + (0.51353467826 × if swelling anatomic snuffbox) + (-0.79038263985 × if painful palpation anatomic snuffbox) + (0.57681198857 × if painful ulnar deviation) + (0.66499549728 × if painful thumb compression)-1.685).

Similar revision rates in clinical studies and arthroplasty registers and no bias for developer publications in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.
Our aim was to assess the outcome with respect to cumulative revision rates of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) by comparing published literature and arthroplasty registry data. Our hypothesis was that there is a superior outcome of UKA described in dependent clinical studies compared to independent studies or arthroplasty registers. ⋯ The outcomes of UKA in dependent and independent clinical studies do not differ significantly and are in line with arthroplasty register datasets. We cannot confirm biased results and the authors recommend the use of UKAs in properly selected patients by experts in their field.

Influence of poor preparation and sleep deficit on injury incidence in amateur small field football of both gender.
Amateur small-field football tournaments are rather common worldwide. Adequate preparation is essential for injury prevention. The consequences of insufficient injury preparation at this level are still unclear. This study investigates the factors influencing injuries in this football population. ⋯ Small-field tournaments in football have a high injury incidence. Male players have a higher injury incidence than female players and show additionally a lack of sleep and alcohol consumption the night before the tournament and poor warm-up performance on match day. Adequate preparation for a football tournament is the key factor for preventing injuries, also in recreational football.

Comparative StudyComparison of various tendon repair techniques in extansor zone 3 injuries: an experimental biomechanical cadaver study.
To compare five different repair techniques for extensor tendon zone III modified Kessler (MK), double-modified Kessler (DMK), modified Kessler epitendinous (MKE), double-modified Kessler epitendinous (DMKE), and running-interlocking horizontal mattress (RIHM) in terms of shortening, stiffness, gap formation, and ultimate load to failure. ⋯ RIHM was found to be stronger and more durable for extensor tendon zone III than the other techniques in terms of ultimate load to failure and stiffness.
