Modified suture-bridge technique for tibial avulsion fractures of the posterior cruciate ligament: a biomechanical comparison.
Displaced tibial posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fractures require surgical fixation in order to provide an adequate bone healing and to avoid a loss of posterior stability. The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of a recently established modified suture bridge technique to a well-established transtibial pullout technique. It was hypothesized that the suture bridge technique shows lower elongation and higher load to failure force compared to a transtibial pullout fixation. ⋯ The suture bridge technique provides a significant lower construct elongation during cyclic loading. But postoperative rehabilitation must respect the low construct strength of both techniques because both fixation techniques did not show a sufficient fixation strength to allow for a more aggressive rehabilitation.

Regional differences between the US, Scandinavia, and South Korea in patient demographics and patient-reported outcomes for primary total knee arthroplasty.
Differences in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patient demographics and clinical outcomes may exist between international regions, yet research is limited. The aim of this study was, therefore, to compare TKA patient demographics and patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) scores between the US, Scandinavia, and South Korea. ⋯ Level III.

Pre-operative templating in THA. Part I: a classification of architectural hip deformities.
While numerous classifications of hip arthritis have been proposed, none considered the magnitude and direction of femoral head translation relative to the native acetabulum. A more precise classification of architectural hip deformities is necessary to improve preoperative templating and anticipate surgical challenges of total hip arthroplasty (THA). The purpose of the present study was to introduce a classification system to distinguish different types of architectural hip deformities, based on femoral head translation patterns, and to evaluate its repeatability using plain radiographs (qualitative) and Computed Tomography (CT) measurements (quantitative). ⋯ The classification system enabled repeatable distinction of 5 types of architectural hip deformities. The excellent agreement between quantitative and qualitative methods suggests that plain radiographs are sufficient to classify architectural hip deformities.

Long-term migration characteristics of the Corail hydroxyapatite-coated femoral stem: a 14-year radiostereometric analysis follow-up study.
The magnitude and pattern of acceptable long-term migration of cementless femoral stems are not well understood. The Corail hydroxyapatite-coated cementless stem is a clinically successful and commonly used femoral stem with a long-term migration pattern not previously described in the literature. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term migration of the Corail hydroxyapatite-coated cementless stem using radiostereometric analysis (RSA) at 14-year follow-up, thereby establishing a benchmark acceptable long-term migration pattern for hydroxyapatite-coated cementless prostheses. ⋯ II.

Meta AnalysisHemostatic techniques to reduce blood transfusion after primary TKA: a meta-analysis and systematic review.
To investigate the efficacy of non-tranexamic acid (TXA) on reducing blood loss and requirements of allogeneic blood transfusion (ABT) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). ⋯ The available evidence in this meta-analysis suggests that postoperative flexion position, fibrin sealant, and cell salvage can substantially decrease the rate of ABT in TKA. Further studies, including more hemostatic methods and high-quality research, are expected.
