Review Meta AnalysisThe effect of teriparatide on patients with atypical femur fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Bisphosphonates (BPs) are one of the most often used drugs to lower fracture risk in osteoporosis patients; nonetheless, BPs have been linked to atypical femoral fracture (AFF). Teriparatide (TPTD) is a parathyroid hormone analogue and anabolic drug that may accelerate fracture repair. TPTD has been considered as a possible treatment for AFF, particularly those caused by BP use. We evaluate the effect of TPTD on AFF in this systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ TPTD is an effective therapy for enhancing and hastening healing following AFF, particularly in postoperative settings. Future large randomized clinical trials are needed to confirm or dispute the results.

Are periprosthetic hip fractures more severe than native hip fractures? A systematic review of outcomes and resource utilization.
There is a paucity of data comparing periprosthetic hip fracture (PPHFx) outcomes and resource utilization to native fractures. Many surgeons consider periprosthetic hip fractures to be more severe injuries than native fractures. The aim of this systematic review is to characterize the outcomes of PPHFx and assess their severity relative to native hip fractures (NHFx). ⋯ Time to surgery and LOS were longer for PPHFx relative to NHFx. Complications' rates were higher for PPHFx compared to NHFx. There is no evidence for differences in LOS, cost, discharge, readmission rates, or mortality between PPHFx and NHFx. These results may serve as a baseline in future evaluation of PPHFx management.

Review Meta AnalysisNo clinical advantage with customized individually made implants over conventional off-the-shelf implants in total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can be performed with either conventional off-the-shelf (OTS) or customized individually-made (CIM) implants. The evidence for CIM implants is limited and variable, and the aim of this review was to compare clinical and radiological outcomes between CIM and OTS implants. ⋯ CIM implants in TKA have theoretical benefits over OTS prostheses. However, in this present review, CIM implants were associated with higher revisions, MUA, and overall complication rates. There was no difference in outcome score and CIM implants did not improve overall target alignment; however, more CIM TKAs were found to be in the HKA target zone compared to OTS TKAs. The findings of this review do not support the general utilization of CIM over OTS implants in TKA.
