Multicenter StudyPatellar fractures in elderly patients: a multicenter computed tomography-based analysis.
This study aimed to demonstrate the characteristics of patellar fractures and evaluate clinical outcomes in elderly patients. ⋯ Patellar fractures in the elderly were mostly from low-energy injuries, and types C3 and A1 were the most common. CT images demonstrated high rates of an inferior pole involvement and comminution. The complication and reoperation rates were relatively high.

Multicenter StudyPreventing ceramic liner fracture after Delta ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty.
The results of total hip arthroplasty (THA) with use of Delta ceramic articulation were successful at medium term follow-up. The use of this newest ceramic has markedly reduced the incidence of ceramic head fractures, but not the incidence of ceramic liner fractures. We tested a hypothesis that the ceramic fractures are prevented by use of a metal shell with 18° inner taper angle and a stem design with a reduced neck geometry. ⋯ Therapeutic level II.

Multicenter StudyIncidence and severity of electric scooter related injuries after introduction of an urban rental programme in Vienna: a retrospective multicentre study.
Electric scooters (e-scooters) are an emerging way of mobility in cities around the world. Despite quickly rising numbers of e-scooters, limited studies report on incidence and severity of e-scooter-associated injuries. The aim of our study was to report on these injuries and identify potential protective measures to ultimately decrease e-scooter-associated morbidity. ⋯ The popularity of rideshare e-scooters across cities worldwide seems to be on the rise, so are e-scooter-associated injuries. These injuries should be considered high-energy trauma affecting primarily head and upper extremity; indeed, 17.7% sustained major head injuries. Therefore, the mandatory use of a helmet seems to be adequate to decrease head injury-associated morbidity. Ultimately, given the remarkably high rates of nighttime injuries, an e-scooter ban during night could further cut injury numbers in half.

Multicenter StudyIs there a role of tranexamic acid in rheumatoid arthritis with total knee arthroplasty? Findings from a multicenter prospective cohort study in China.
Tranexamic acid (TXA) has proven to be effective in reducing the blood loss associated with total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with osteoarthritis. However, there still exists a paucity of evidence regarding the effectiveness of intravenous TXA in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The aim of this study was to explore the efficacy and safety of intravenous TXA on blood loss after TKA in Chinese patients with rheumatoid arthritis. ⋯ TXA can effectively diminish blood loss, reduce transfusion, shorten LOS and decrease hospitalization costs after TKA in Chinese patients with rheumatoid arthritis, without increasing the risk of complications.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyVitamin E-blended highly cross-linked polyethylene liners in total hip arthroplasty: a randomized, multicenter trial using virtual CAD-based wear analysis at 5-year follow-up.
Progressive oxidation of highly cross-linked ultra-high molecular weight (UHMPWE-X) liners is considered to be a risk factor for material failure in THA. Antioxidants such as vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) (UHMWPE-XE) were supplemented into the latest generation of polyethylene liners. To prevent inhomogenous vitamin E distribution within the polymer, blending was established as an alternative manufacturing process to diffusion. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the in vivo wear behavior of UHMWPE-XE in comparison with conventional UHMWPE-X liners using virtual CAD-based radiographs. ⋯ The present study demonstrates that the addition of vitamin E does not adversely affect the midterm wear behavior of UHMWPE-X. The antioxidative benefit of vitamin E is expected to become evident in long-term follow-up. Cup anteversion increment by 5° within the 1st year is likely a result of the released hip flexion contracture resulting in an enhanced posterior pelvic tilt. Therefore, a reassessment of target values in acetabular cup placement might be considered.
