Titanium-nickel shape memory alloy (Ti-Ni SMA) is characterized by shape-memory effect, super-elasticity, excellent fatigue behavior, corrosion resistance, acceptable biocompatibility and high damping capacity. ⋯ The Ti-Ni SMA-claw fixator produced good osteosynthesis effect by continuous recovery stress with relatively simple and minimally invasive handling process, which can be introduced as an alternative to traditional tension band technique for treatment of patellar transverse fracture.

Cast-treated distal radius fractures: a prospective cohort study of radiological outcomes and their association with impaired calcaneal bone mineral density.
We hypothesized that treating distal radius fractures with cast only or closed reduction and cast is associated with high malunion risk and that the risk is higher in patients with low bone mineral density (BMD). ⋯ Closed reduction and cast is not an effective treatment for distal radius fractures if radiological graphic outcomes are considered. There is a higher risk of malunion involving dorsal and radial tilt in patients with osteoporosis. Calcaneal BMD measurement may have some benefit in predicting the risk of severe malunion.

The size of tibial footprint of anterior cruciate ligament and association with physical characteristics in Asian females.
The tibial footprint is important for preoperative planning of operative technique and graft selection. Knowledge of tibial footprint in Asians is scant including the relationship between tibial footprint and physical characteristics. The aim of this study was to identify the size of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tibial footprint and the proportion of size <14 mm, and to evaluate the association of tibial footprint with physical characteristics in Asian females. ⋯ Tibial footprint size shows a large variation with a high proportion of <14 mm length. Tibial length can help predict the ACL tibial footprint in the preoperative planning of ACL reconstruction.

Comparative StudyReconstruction techniques in comparison for reverse shoulder trauma prosthesis in the elderly: a follow-up between 2 and 4 years.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of a bone graft technique called bCAT (bone Collar And Tie), in which the fractured humeral head is modelled into a collar shape versus puzzle piece reconstruction (PPR) in elderly patients with complex proximal humeral fractures. ⋯ The PPR and the bCAT techniques promoted the healing and correct positioning of the tuberosities thereby resulting in good functioning of the residual cuff. The bCAT technique resulted in better clinical function particularly in abduction and extrarotation and in terms of radiological outcome of reverse prosthesis surgery.

Open fixation of acute anterior glenoid rim fractures with bioresorbable pins: analysis of clinical and radiological outcome.
The purpose of this study was a detailed analysis of clinical and radiological results following open fixation of acute-traumatic, displaced anterior glenoid rim fractures with bioresorbable pins. ⋯ Bioresorbable pin fixation is a feasible and safe method of osteosynthesis for anterior glenoid rim fractures up to a glenoid defect size of about 35 % and enables immediate active range of motion. Good or excellent clinical outcome can be expected and glenohumeral stability is reliably restored. The most common mid- and long-term complication is occurrence or progression of osteoarthritis. The major benefits of bioresorbable pin fixation are redundancy of implant removal, minimal risk of implant-related complications and early functional rehabilitation.
