Comparative StudyA comparison of the anteromedial and transtibial drilling technique in ACL reconstruction after a short-term follow-up.
The purpose of this study was to compare clinical and radiological outcomes of patients who underwent single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with anteromedial portal (AMP) and transtibial (TT) techniques. ⋯ It was shown that AMP technique was superior to the TT technique in providing anatomical placement of the graft and in recovery time to return sports; however, there was no difference between groups in early periods in terms of the clinical and functional outcomes.

Fatty degeneration and atrophy of the rotator cuff muscles after arthroscopic repair: does it improve, halt or deteriorate?
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in fatty degeneration and atrophy of rotator cuff muscles after arthroscopic repair. We further assessed the factors affecting the functional outcomes and integrity of the rotator cuff. ⋯ Initial muscle atrophy and fatty degeneration did not improve even after a successful rotator cuff repair where the tendon anatomic integrity was maintained for at least 2 years. It may continue to deteriorate, and the best possibility was preservation of the preoperative status. On the other hand, in cases of re-rupture, fatty degeneration and atrophy continued to worsen significantly. The factors affecting tendon integrity were found to be the age of the patient, the size of the tear and the severity of preoperative fatty degeneration in the rotator cuff.

Comparative StudyFunctional and patient-reported outcome of partial wrist denervation versus the Mannerfelt wrist arthrodesis in the rheumatoid wrist.
Wrist arthrodesis offers high success rates in patients with rheumatoid arthritis; however, loss of residual mobility may cause unnecessary disability. This makes wrist denervation an appealing alternative. However, there is a distinct lack of patient-reported outcome measure studies comparing these two procedures. The aim of this study was to report any change in function, pain and satisfaction following wrist arthrodesis compared to denervation in a single surgeon series of rheumatoid patients. ⋯ Both procedures enjoyed favourable results amongst patients with excellent satisfaction outcomes. PIN denervation is a simple procedure with low complication rates and we therefore consider it a valid alternative to more difficult treatment options, such as partial or total wrist arthrodesis.

Displaced inferior ramus fractures as a marker of posterior pelvic injury.
Injuries to the anterior or posterior pelvic ring rarely occur in isolation. Disruption to the anterior pelvic ring, indicated by a fracture of the superior or inferior pubic ramus, or injury to the pubic symphysis, may be indicative of additional pelvic ring disruption. The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine whether displaced inferior pubic ramus fractures warrant a more detailed investigation of the posterior ring in an effort to predict unstable posterior pelvic ring injuries. ⋯ The anterior pelvic ring can be used to help identify unstable injuries to the posterior pelvis. Patients with displaced inferior pubic ramus fractures warrant a detailed examination of their posterior ring to identify additional injuries and instability.

Translation and validation of the German version of the foot and ankle outcome score.
Outcome assessment is critical in evaluating the efficacy of orthopaedic procedures. The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) is a 42-item questionnaire divided into five subscales, which has been validated in several languages. Germany has no validated outcome score for general foot and ankle pathology. The aim of this study was to develop a German version of the FAOS and to investigate its psychometric properties. ⋯ The German version of the FAOS is a reliable and valid instrument for use in foot and ankle patients.
