Review Meta AnalysisExtramedullary versus intramedullary fixation of stable trochanteric femoral fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This systematic review and meta-analysis compared extramedullary fixation and intramedullary fixation for stable two-part trochanteric femoral fractures (AO type 31-A1) with regards to functional outcomes, complications, and surgical outcomes. ⋯ Current literature shows no meaningful differences in complications, surgical, or functional outcomes between extramedullary and intramedullary fixation of stable two-part trochanteric femoral fractures. Both treatment options result in good outcomes. This study implicates that, costs should be taken into account when considering implants or comparing fixation methods in future research.

Review Meta AnalysisLimb salvage versus primary amputation in Gustilo-Anderson IIIB and IIIC tibial fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The last systematic review on this topic was published in 2008. With advances in surgical techniques, patients with mangled extremities may now be potentially salvageable with comparable outcomes. This review aims to evaluate the outcomes of limb salvage compared to primary amputation in patients with severe open tibial fractures. ⋯ III.

Review Meta AnalysisIrritation from metalwork after ankle arthrodesis fixed using screws: a proportional meta-analysis and systematic review.
Ankle arthrodesis (AA) is often fixed using cannulated screws. The irritation from metalwork is a relatively common complication, but there is no consensus regarding the need to remove the screws on a systematic basis. The aim of this study was to determine (1) the proportion of screws removed after AA and (2) whether predictors of screw removal could be identified. ⋯ Level IV, systematic review of Level IV.

Review Meta AnalysisSurgical treatment options for plantar fasciitis and their effectiveness: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.
To date, there are no systematic reviews on the utility of surgical management for plantar fasciitis to guide best practice. This review aimed to evaluate the operative options for plantar fasciitis and their effectiveness. ⋯ Level III.

Review Meta AnalysisAre leukocyte-poor or multiple injections of platelet-rich plasma more effective than hyaluronic acid for knee osteoarthritis? A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has gained popularity as a treatment option for knee osteoarthritis; however, its efficacy remains controversial. The optimal leukocyte concentration and number of injections have not been well investigated. This study was, therefore, designed to provide clinical evidence on the leukocyte concentration and number of intra-articular injections of PRP via a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). ⋯ Meta-analysis of level I studies.
