Multicenter Study Clinical TrialLevetiracetam: a long-term follow-up study of efficacy and safety.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of long-term add-on treatment with levetiracetam 1,000-4,000 mg/day. ⋯ Median total and partial seizure frequency per week over the evaluation period were 0.8 and 0.7; seizure frequency per week was generally stable over time and remained low. There was a probability of 6.6% of remaining seizure-free for the first 3 years, and of 18.9% of having a seizure-free period of at least 3 years at any time. Most adverse events were mild or moderate and unrelated to study drug. Levetiracetam was well tolerated, and provided stable seizure control during long-term treatment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyOxcarbazepine in painful diabetic neuropathy: results of a dose-ranging study.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of oxcarbazepine in patients with diabetic neuropathy in a multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging 16-week study. ⋯ Although the primary efficacy variable did not reach statistical significance, patients taking oxcarbazepine 1,200 and 1,800 mg/day showed improvements in VAS scores compared with placebo. Oxcarbazepine may provide clinically meaningful pain relief in patients with painful diabetic neuropathy.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialLevetiracetam in a broad population of patients with refractory epilepsy: interim results of the international SKATE trial.
To prospectively assess the safety and efficacy of levetiracetam in patients with uncontrolled focal epilepsy, in a common practice-based setting. ⋯ Levetiracetam is both efficacious and safe as an add-on therapy in patients with refractory epilepsy treated by clinicians in their daily practice.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialThe Swedish Malignant Middle cerebral artery Infarction Study: long-term results from a prospective study of hemicraniectomy combined with standardized neurointensive care.
Hemicraniectomy in patients with malignant middle cerebral artery (mMCA) infarct may be life-saving. The long-term prognosis is unknown. ⋯ The long-term survival after mMCA infarction treated with hemicraniectomy seems to be favourable if the patient survives the acute phase. The outcome as measured with mRS may be better among younger patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialTopiramate in painful diabetic polyneuropathy: findings from three double-blind placebo-controlled trials.
To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of topiramate in patients with painful diabetic polyneuropathy. ⋯ These studies did not find topiramate to be significantly more effective than placebo in reducing pain scores in patients with painful diabetic polyneuropathy. Several design features may have precluded the studies from having sufficient sensitivity to differentiate effective and ineffective treatments. The study design and results are instructive for other investigators designing future clinical studies in neuropathic pain.
