Randomized Controlled TrialSwedish randomized controlled trial of cardiotocography only versus cardiotocography plus ST analysis of fetal electrocardiogram revisited: analysis of data according to standard versus modified intention-to-treat principle.
To undertake a renewed analysis of data from the previously published Swedish randomized controlled trial on intrapartum fetal monitoring with cardiotocography (CTG-only) vs. CTG plus ST analysis of fetal electrocardiogram (CTG+ST), using current standards of intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis and to compare the results with those of the modified ITT (mITT) and per protocol analyses. ⋯ Re-analysis of data according to the ITT principle showed that regardless of the method of analysis, the Swedish randomized controlled trial maintained its ability to demonstrate a significant reduction in metabolic acidosis rate when using CTG+ST analysis for fetal surveillance in labor.

Randomized Controlled TrialAcupressure to reduce labor pain: a randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate the effect of acupressure administered during the active phase of labor on nulliparous women's ratings of labor pain. ⋯ Acupressure seems to reduce pain during the active phase of labor in nulliparous women giving birth in a context in which social support and epidural analgesia are not available. However, the treatment effect is small which suggests that acupressure may be most effective during the initial phase of labor.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy of intrauterine lignocaine plus vaginal misoprostol for pain relief in premenopausal women undergoing endometrial aspiration and ambulatory hysteroscopy.
To compare the effectiveness of a combination of intrauterine lignocaine and vaginal misoprostol in reducing pain at hysteroscopy and endometrial aspiration (EA). ⋯ A combination of intrauterine lignocaine plus vaginal misoprostol reduced the pain score in premenopausal women undergoing hysteroscopy and EA.

Randomized Controlled TrialA randomized controlled trial comparing vaginal misoprostol versus Foley catheter plus oxytocin for labor induction.
To compare effectiveness and safety of 25 microg vaginal misoprostol versus Foley catheter and oxytocin for cervical ripening and labor induction in pregnant women with unripe cervices. ⋯ Vaginal misoprostol is more effective than and as safe as Foley catheter and oxytocin for induction of labor in term and post-term pregnancy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyEffects of intrapartum epidural analgesia at high altitudes: maternal, fetal, and neonatal outcomes. A randomized controlled trial of two formulations of analgesics.
To investigate whether intrapartum epidural analgesics (bupivacaine or ropivacaine) have an influence (safety and efficacy) on mothers, fetuses, or newborns at high altitudes (2,200 m above the sea level). ⋯ At high altitudes, no major advantage was found for epidural ropivacaine over bupivacaine in addition to fentanyl for labor analgesia and no harmful effects of the medications were found on mothers, fetuses, or newborns.
