Randomized Controlled TrialAn Open-Label, Randomized Trial of Methylphenidate and Atomoxetine Treatment in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
The efficacy of both methylphenidate and atomoxetine has been established in placebo-controlled trials. The present study aimed to directly compare the efficacy of methylphenidate and atomoxetine in improving symptoms among children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ⋯ After 24 weeks of treatment, OROS-methylphenidate and atomoxetine had comparable efficacy in reducing core ADHD symptoms in drug-naïve children and adolescents with ADHD.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy of guanfacine extended release assessed during the morning, afternoon, and evening using a modified Conners' Parent Rating Scale-revised: Short Form.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of once-daily guanfacine extended release (GXR) monotherapy administered either in the morning or evening, using a modified Conners' Parent Rating Scale-Revised: Short Form (CPRS-R:S) assessed three times/day in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ⋯ These results provide further support for the demonstrated efficacy of once-daily GXR in reducing ADHD symptoms, and demonstrate that response is consistent throughout the day regardless of the time of administration, with improvement seen in ratings of oppositional as well as of ADHD symptoms.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyGuanfacine extended release adjunctive to a psychostimulant in the treatment of comorbid oppositional symptoms in children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of guanfacine extended release (GXR) adjunctive to a psychostimulant on oppositional symptoms in children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ⋯ GXR adjunctive to a psychostimulant significantly reduced oppositional symptoms compared with placebo plus a psychostimulant in subjects with ADHD and a suboptimal response to psychostimulant alone.
