Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparison of single-sequence T1w TFE MRI with multisequence MRI for the quantification of lipid-rich necrotic core in atherosclerotic plaque.
To prospectively determine the accuracy of semiquantitative analysis of the amount of lipid-rich necrotic core (LRNC) in atherosclerotic plaque using multi- as well as single-sequence T1-weighted (w) turbo field echo (TFE) MRI. Histology served as a reference standard. ⋯ The amount of LRNC using single-sequence T1w TFE MRI is a reproducible, accurate, and fast way to quantify LRNC in carotid atherosclerotic plaque.

To compare the nodule management capabilities of dynamic MRI, dynamic multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) and coregistered positron emission tomography (PET)/CT. ⋯ Dynamic MRI can play a more specific and/or accurate role for nodule management as compared with dynamic MDCT and coregistered PET/CT.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparison of lipid-rich necrotic core size in symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid atherosclerotic plaque: Initial results.
To investigate the potential difference in the size of the lipid-rich necrotic core (LRNC) in carotid plaques of symptomatic patients versus asymptomatic patients. Pathological studies established that a large LRNC is an important feature of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque. Previously, we have demonstrated a high correlation between semiquantitative analysis of the LRNC size in T1-weighted (w) turbo field echo (TFE) MR images and histology. ⋯ Single-sequence T1w TFE may be a promising technique to study atherosclerotic plaque at risk of stroke. Larger studies are warranted to confirm these promising results.

Clinical TrialHigh signal intensity halo around the carotid artery on maximum intensity projection images of time-of-flight MR angiography: a new sign for intraplaque hemorrhage.
To evaluate the value of the high signal intensity halo sign as a new marker of a fresh or recent intraplaque hemorrhage on the maximum intensity projection (MIP) images of time-of-flight (TOF) MR angiography. ⋯ High signal intensity halo around the carotid artery on the MIP images of TOF MR angiography is useful in the noninvasive detection of a fresh or recent carotid intraplaque hemorrhage.

Temporal evolution of MR perfusion in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
To illustrate the evolution of brain perfusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (PWI-MRI) in severe neonatal hypoxic-ischemic (HI) encephalopathy, and its possible relation to further neurodevelopmental outcome. ⋯ PWI in HI encephalopathy did not have the same temporal evolution as DWI, and remained abnormal for more than one week after injury. This could be a marker of an ongoing mechanism underlying severe neonatal HI encephalopathy. Evolution of PWI might help to predict further neurodevelopmental outcome.
