Exhaled breath temperature in elite swimmers: The effects of a training session in adolescents with or without asthma.
Cooling of the airways and inflammation have been pointed as possible mechanisms for exercise-induced asthma (EIA). We aimed to investigate the effect of training and asthma on exhaled breath temperature (EBT) of elite swimmers. ⋯ Although these are preliminary data, a relationship between airway's inflammation and respiratory heat loss during exercise could not be confirmed, suggesting that the increase in exhaled breath temperature is a physiologic rather than a pathological response to exercise.

Review Meta AnalysisSystematic review on the use of omalizumab for the treatment of asthmatic children and adolescents.
There are less data on omalizumab treatment in pediatric asthma than in adult population. Thus, to establish the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous omalizumab as an add-on therapy, a systematic review of placebo-controlled studies was performed. ⋯ Data indicate that the efficacy of an add-on omalizumab in patients with moderate-to-severe allergic asthma uncontrolled with recommended inhaled steroid treatment is accompanied by an acceptable safety profile.

A population-based study of animal component sensitization, asthma, and rhinitis in schoolchildren.
Animal sensitization is a major determinant of asthma in children. Component-resolved studies of unselected pediatric populations are lacking. The aim was to describe sensitization to animal components and the association with asthma and rhinitis in animal-sensitized schoolchildren. ⋯ Among schoolchildren in northern Sweden, where mite allergy is uncommon, furry animals were the primary perennial sensitizers. Asthma was associated with higher levels of component sensitization, and sensitization to more than one component from the same animal conferred the greatest risk.
