Review Meta AnalysisSystematic review on the use of omalizumab for the treatment of asthmatic children and adolescents.
There are less data on omalizumab treatment in pediatric asthma than in adult population. Thus, to establish the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous omalizumab as an add-on therapy, a systematic review of placebo-controlled studies was performed. ⋯ Data indicate that the efficacy of an add-on omalizumab in patients with moderate-to-severe allergic asthma uncontrolled with recommended inhaled steroid treatment is accompanied by an acceptable safety profile.

A population-based study of animal component sensitization, asthma, and rhinitis in schoolchildren.
Animal sensitization is a major determinant of asthma in children. Component-resolved studies of unselected pediatric populations are lacking. The aim was to describe sensitization to animal components and the association with asthma and rhinitis in animal-sensitized schoolchildren. ⋯ Among schoolchildren in northern Sweden, where mite allergy is uncommon, furry animals were the primary perennial sensitizers. Asthma was associated with higher levels of component sensitization, and sensitization to more than one component from the same animal conferred the greatest risk.

Comparative StudyDiagnostic accuracy of patch test in children with food allergy.
The gold standard test for confirming whether a child has clinical hypersensitivity reactions to foods is the oral food challenge. Therefore, there is increasing interest in simpler diagnostic markers of food allergy, especially in children, to avoid oral food challenge. The goal of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of atopy patch test in comparison with oral food challenge. ⋯ Our study suggests that there is insufficient evidence for the routine use of atopy patch test for the evaluation of egg and cow's milk allergy. OFC remains gold standard for the diagnosis of egg and milk allergy even in the presence of high costs in terms of both time and risks during application.
