Review Meta AnalysisPerioperative Statins Do Not Prevent Acute Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.
To evaluate whether perioperative statins reduce the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiac surgery. ⋯ Among patients undergoing cardiac surgery, perioperative statin treatment did not reduce the risk of AKI. Statin therapy should not be initiated to prevent AKI following cardiac surgery.

Prevalence and Implications of Abnormal Respiratory Patterns in Cardiac Surgery: A Prospective Cohort Study.
To investigate the prevalence and impact of abnormal respiratory patterns in cardiac surgery patients. ⋯ Abnormal respiratory patterns are common and often underdiagnosed in the cardiac surgery setting. Pulmonary function tests help reveal patients at risk of complications and may provide an opportunity for intervention.
