Observational StudyPrediction of Pleural Adhesions by Lung Ultrasonography: An Observational Study.
Pleural adhesion makes video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) an arduous procedure and can increase postoperative pain from accompanying adhesiolysis. For the present study, the feasibility of lung ultrasonography for the prediction of pleural adhesions and postoperative pain in VATS was investigated. ⋯ Lung ultrasonography may help with planning postoperative pain management in VATS; however, it was a better tool for ruling out rather than detecting pleural adhesions.

Clinical TrialComparison of the Hemodynamic and Temperature Effects of a 500-mL Bolus of 4% Albumin at Room Versus Body Temperature in Cardiac Surgery Patients.
To compare the hemodynamic effect of room temperature (cold) 4% albumin fluid bolus therapy (FBT) with body temperature (warm) albumin FBT. ⋯ In postoperative cardiac surgery patients, warm albumin FBT prevents the decrease in core temperature and, after an initial similar increase, is associated with a faster return of MAP and mean PAP toward baseline.

Randomized Controlled TrialA Comparison of Different Remifentanil Effect-Site Concentrations to Allow for Early Extubation After Cardiac Surgery.
Assess different remifentanil effect-site concentrations (Ce) for readiness for extubation time after cardiac surgery. ⋯ Remifentanil Ce 1, 2, and 3 ng/mL produced comparative effects on time to extubation and hemodynamic responses to cardiac surgery. The 3 Ce resulted in immediate on-table extubation in 50% of patients.
