Management was evaluated with indicators published in the Guidelines for Hypertension for Primary Care (Guía de Hipertensión Arterial para la Atención Primaria). ⋯ Follow-up for hypertension in Catalonia has improved notably since 1996, but there was no improvement in the diagnosis of risk factors or in the integral evaluation of cardiovascular risk.

To assess the validity of small questionnaires of 4,5 and 1 questions, based on the 15-question Spanish version of the Yesavage geriatric depression scale (GDS-VE), for diagnosing depression in the over-65s. ⋯ The sensitivity and specificity results are similar to results of other ultra-short GDS studies. The high reliability of these ultra-short versions leads us to recommend that new studies be run to enable these versions to be consolidated as a valid and very rapid option for diagnosing depression among the elderly.

To determine the concordance and predictive capacity of various methods for calculating coronary risk in diabetic patients. ⋯ The various methods for calculating coronary risk in diabetics suffer large variability. We should highlight their low diagnostic value in individual cases, with sensitivities of 25%-75% and low specificity (mainly in men) regarding real risk of coronary disease.
