Comparative Study Clinical TrialGabapentin for the symptomatic treatment of chronic neuropathic pain in patients with late-stage lyme borreliosis: a pilot study.
Chronic neuropathic pain occurs in 10-15% of patients with neuroborreliosis and is difficult to treat. ⋯ In an open pilot study (10 patients), gabapentin monotherapy which has to our knowledge not been published as treatment of chronic neuropathic pain in patients with late Lyme borreliosis is efficacious in treating pain associated with neuroborreliosis and can thus improve quality of life in these patients.

Case ReportsA case of mixed bullous disease of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita and linear IgA bullous dermatosis.
A 75-year-old Japanese male visited us with bullous eruptions on the extremities. Physical examination revealed large bullae on the hands, lower legs and feet. The oral mucosa was also involved. ⋯ From the clinicopathological findings, the present case is not consistent with either epidermolysis bullosa acquisita or IgA bullous dermatosis. Therefore, we regarded the case as mixed bullous disease of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita and linear IgA bullous dermatosis. Such a case has not been previously reported.

Sexually transmitted infections in Switzerland: return of the classics.
Recent trends in western Europe show an increase in sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Available surveillance data in Switzerland confirm this rising trend. Gonorrhoea rates more than doubled between 1996 and 2003, and for Chlamydia there was a 64% increase from 1999 to 2003. ⋯ For 2004, further increases in these bacterial STIs are expected. Increased awareness of the symptoms and signs of acute infections is needed as well as considering the diagnosis of STIs in patients with vague symptoms. In addition, laboratory reporting or mandatory disease notifications are needed to monitor syphilis trends in Switzerland.
