Efficacy and safety of subcutaneous anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha agents, etanercept and adalimumab, in elderly patients affected by psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis: an observational long-term study.
In elderly patients the management of psoriasis is challenging due to contraindications and a higher risk of side effects. ⋯ Our study demonstrates that subcutaneous anti-TNF-α agents are appropriate in the long-term management of elderly patients.

Review Case ReportsTreatment of toxic epidermal necrolysis with the combination of infliximab and high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin.
Therapeutic evidence for toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is indicative for high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin yet inconclusive for corticosteroids. ⋯ The described combination presents a feasible therapeutic alternative for TEN that warrants further evaluation.

PTPN22 polymorphism presumably plays a role in the genetic background of chronic spontaneous autoreactive urticaria.
The association of chronic urticaria (CU) with autoimmune disorders is relatively well proved. Protein tyrosine phosphatase-22 (PTPN22) is considered to be one of the strongest genetic factors for human autoimmunity. We decided to evaluate whether additional, non 1858C>T, PTPN22 variants are independent contributors to the risk of CU occurrence in the Polish population. ⋯ Contrary to previous findings, the contribution of PTPN22 to disease susceptibility is suggested. We can speculate that CU is a genetically complex disease and that its occurrence needs multiple genetic and environmental risk factors.

Confocal microscopy insights into the treatment and cellular immune response of Basal cell carcinoma to photodynamic therapy.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) represents an optimal treatment for basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a noninvasive imaging tool that has been applied in skin oncology and for BCC diagnosis. Moreover, RCM is a useful tool to determine noninvasive treatment efficacy of nonmelanoma skin cancer. ⋯ RCM is a valuable noninvasive tool for the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of BCC using PDT.
