Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyJanus Kinase Inhibitors for the Treatment of Severe Alopecia Areata: An Open-Label Comparative Study.
Alopecia areata (AA) is a common autoimmune disorder characterized by patchy hair loss. There are many treatments available for AA. However, treatments of severe forms of AA are not satisfactory. Recently, oral Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors were found to be effective for the treatment of severe AA variants. ⋯ Both ruxolitinib and tofacitinib could be considered effective and well-tolerated treatments for extensive AA.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyManagement of split-thickness skin graft donor sites: a randomized controlled trial of calcium alginate versus polyurethane film dressing.
Split-thickness skin graft (STSG) donor sites sometimes cause more postoperative morbidity for patients than the wound covered with the graft. Yet, there is no consensus on which dressings are best suited to treat these donor sites. ⋯ Whereas film dressings resulted in initially lower pain scores, alginate dressings caused fewer additional dressing changes and less leakage.

Randomized Controlled TrialTumescent liposuction: efficacy of a lower lidocaine dose (400 mg/l).
Local anesthesia has been widely accepted as the standard of care in liposuction. Anesthesia is achieved with a standard tumescent solution, and lidocaine is most often used at a concentration of 500 mg/l. ⋯ We propose the use of a lower lidocaine concentration of 400 mg/l in the tumescent solution compared to the originally described solution containing 500 mg/l. This is of particular interest when multiple body parts or larger areas are to be treated to avoid lidocaine toxicity.

Randomized Controlled TrialRelationship between clinical response to therapy and health-related quality of life outcomes in patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.
Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes are associated with clinical response to treatment in psoriasis. However, the association between HRQOL outcomes and more substantial degrees of Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) response and physician and patient global ratings remains ill defined. ⋯ Improvement in PASI response of >75% corresponded to improvements in HRQOL outcome measures for patients with moderate to severe psoriasis. PASI 90 or 100 responders had greater improvements in DLQI total score than PASI 75 responders.

Randomized Controlled TrialQuality control in chronic wound management: the role of local povidone-iodine (Betadine) therapy.
The treatment of venous leg ulcers is often inadequate, because of incorrect diagnosis, overuse of systemic antibiotics and inadequate use of compression therapy. Stasis dermatitis related to chronic venous insufficiency accompanied by infected superficial ulcers must be differentiated from erysipelas, cellulitis and contact eczema. ⋯ Compression is essential in the mobilization of the interstitial lymphatic fluid from the region of stasis dermatitis. Topical disinfection and appropriate wound dressings are important to prevent wound infection. Systemic antibiotics are necessary only in systemic infections (fever, lymphangitis, lymphadenopathy, erysipelas).
