Barometric pressure has been reported as a triggering and exacerbating factor in migraine headaches, although there are few reports concerning the association of weather change and migraine headache. The relationship between barometric pressure changes and migraine headaches was prospectively examined. ⋯ Barometric pressure change can be one of the exacerbating factors of migraine headaches.

Osteoporosis has been reported to increase the risk of mortality. However, these reports did not evaluate the effects of co-mobidities and the severity of osteoporosis on mortality. The aim of our study was to determine whether or not major osteoporotic fractures contribute to the increased mortality risk in Japanese women. ⋯ These results emphasize the importance of osteoporotic fracture in terms of survival.

Review Case Reports
A case of renal synovial sarcoma treated with adjuvant ifosfamide and doxorubicin.
Primary renal synovial sarcomas (SS) are rare tumors of the kidney. Faria et al first described primary renal synovial sarcoma in 1999 (Mod Pathol 12:94A). In this paper we present a primary renal synovial sarcoma case and review the 41 primary renal synovial sarcoma cases reported to date. ⋯ Postoperative pathology of the 20 cm mass on magnetic resonance imaging showed histologic and immunochemical features of synovial sarcoma with coexisting spindle and epithelial cells. She underwent adjuvant ifosfamide and doxorubicin chemotherapy and was free of disease at 1 year after diagnosis. As a conclusion, physicians should be aware of the possibility of malignancy in cystic renal masses and that synovial sarcoma is one of the possibilities.

Comparative Study
FEV6 and FEV1/FEV6 in Japanese participants of the community-based annual health check: the Takahata study.
Forced expiratory volume in 6 seconds (FEV(6)) is becoming a substitute of forced vital capacity (FVC). However, the Japanese predictive equation for FEV(6) has not been established, and the validity for the use of FEV(1)/FEV(6) for diagnosing airflow limitation in Japanese has not been confirmed. ⋯ The results of the present study suggest that %FEV(6) and FEV(1)/FEV(6) are excellent substitutes for %FVC and FEV(1)/FVC, respectively. We confirmed the validity of the use of FEV(6) and FEV(1)/FEV(6) for identifying pulmonary diseases in Japanese individuals.

A 78-year-old man with cryptogenic chronic bilateral lymphoplasmacytic pleuritis, diagnosed based on left parietal pleural biopsy specimens obtained by pleuroscopy, developed acute left bacterial pleuritis. The left pleural effusion was neutrophil dominant, however, the right pleural effusion showed lymphoplasmacytic infiltration. ⋯ Re-evaluation of the previous biopsy specimens using an immunostaining method revealed numerous IgG4-positive plasma cell infiltrations with IgG4-positive/IgG-positive plasma cells at 85.4%. Accordingly, the new diagnosis of this patient was considered to be chronic bilateral IgG4-related pleuritis.
