Randomized Controlled TrialUltrasound-guided selective supraclavicular nerve block for postoperative pain control in children receiving Hickman catheter or chemoport insertion: A randomized controlled trial.
Optimal pain management after insertion of a central venous catheter in children remains unclear. ⋯ Ultrasound-guided SSCNB is an effective method for managing postoperative pain in children undergoing Hickman catheter or chemoport insertion, reducing the need for analgesics within 24 h after surgery.

The relationship between gastric ultrasound findings and endoscopically aspirated volume in infants and determining the antral cutoff value for empty stomach diagnosis.
Pulmonary aspiration of gastric content is a serious perioperative complication. The objective of this prospective study was to assess the relationship between the gastric volumes suctioned endoscopically and quantitative (antral cross-section area) and qualitative (empty vs. nonempty) examination of the gastric antrum. Furthermore, the study aimed to determine the best antral cross-section area cutoff value for a truly empty antrum in infants. ⋯ Gastric ultrasonography can confirm an empty or nearly empty stomach in healthy infants.

Observational StudyAssociation between emergence delirium and brain status parameters in children undergoing general anesthesia: A prospective observational study.
Emergence delirium is a common postoperative neurological complication in children after general anesthesia. There is no valid tool to predict emergence delirium. Wavelet index, pain threshold index, anxiety index, and comfort index are real-time brain status parameters extracted from the electroencephalogram, which have recently been developed. The aim is to evaluate the association between real-time brain status parameters during emergence and emergence delirium in children undergoing general anesthesia. ⋯ AnXi and CFi might be used to guide anesthesiologists to identify and intervene ED in children.

The effect of intraoperative cerebral oxygen desaturations on postoperative cerebral oxygen metabolism in neonates and infants a pilot study.
Cerebral oxygen desaturation during pediatric surgery has been associated with adverse perioperative outcomes. The aim of this pilot study was to analyze the frequency and severity of intraoperative cerebral oxygen desaturations and their impact on postoperative cerebral oxygen metabolism in neonates and infants undergoing pediatric surgery. ⋯ Cerebral oxygen desaturation during major surgery in neonates and infants is associated with early postoperative increased cerebral oxygen extraction and possibly increased cerebral oxygen metabolism.
