[Non-invasive evaluation of pulmonary artery occlusion pressure in critically ill patients with mechanical ventilation].
To compare the measurements of pulmonary artery occlusion pressure (PAOP) by means of the use a pulmonary artery catheter and those obtained through a formula that relates the systolic artery pressure before and after a Valsalva maneuver. ⋯ The prediction of the PAOP by means of the Valsalva maneuver showed a limited correlation with that obtained by means of the pulmonary artery catheter.

[National Study of Control of Nosocomial Infection in Intensive Care Units. Evolutive report of the years 2003-2005].
Describe the national rates of acquired invasive device-related infections in the ICU during 2003, 2004 and 2005, their etiology and evolution of the multiresistance markers. ⋯ Elevated rates persist in all the infections controlled, without change in the etiology and increase of resistance of gram-negative bacilli.

[Factors associated with the prognosis of mechanically ventilated infants and children. An international study].
Identify factors associated with the survival of pediatric patients who are submitted to mechanical ventilation (MV) for more than 12 hours. ⋯ In a large cohort of mechanically ventilated pediatric patients we found that severity of illness at admission, high mean PIP, development of acute renal failure and severe hypoxemia over the course of MV were the factors associated with lower survival rate.

[Characteristics and evolution of cardiopulmonary arrest in children in Spain: comparison between autonomous communities].
In Spain there are many differences between autonomous regions in terms of geography, population distribution and health care organisation. We do not know if these differences could have influenced the characteristics and evolution of cardiopulmonary arrest in children. ⋯ There are no important differences in the characteristics of pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest, resuscitation, evolution and survival between the autonomous regions in Spain. Additional studies are needed to analyze the hypothetical influence of health care organization and life support training on survival.

[Degree of public awareness regarding intensive care units (ICUs) and intensive care physicians in Castilla y León].
To determine degree of public awareness regarding the activities and health care professionals that comprise intensive care units (ICUs) in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. ⋯ In the described scope, of the citizens of Castilla y León, 27.7% know as it is a ICU, 25.5% know what type of patients usually is entered there, and 48.4% recognize their doctors like ICU specialists specifically.
