Multicenter Study Observational Study
Current practice in continuous renal replacement therapy: An epidemiological multicenter study.
The aim of the study is to ascertain the most relevant aspects of the current management of renal replacement therapy (RRT) in critically ill patients, and to analyze renal function recovery and mortality in patients undergoing RRT. ⋯ Current practice in RRT in Catalonia abides with the current clinical practice guidelines. Mortality related to RRT is associated to later onset of such therapy. The renal function recovery rate at hospital discharge was 85% among the patients subjected to RRT.

End-of-life practices in patients with devastating brain injury in Spain: implications for organ donation.
To describe end-of-life care practices relevant to organ donation in patients with devastating brain injury in Spain. ⋯ Although deceased donation is optimized in Spain, there are still opportunities for improvement in the identification of possible donors outside the ICU and in the consideration of donation after circulatory death in patients who die following the withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy.

Characteristics and outcomes of patients admitted to Spanish ICU: A prospective observational study from the ENVIN-HELICS registry (2006-2011).
To describe the case-mix of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) in Spain during the period 2006-2011 and to assess changes in ICU mortality according to severity level. ⋯ This study provides observational longitudinal data on case-mix of patients admitted to Spanish ICUs. A slight reduction in ICU mortality rate was observed among patients with intermediate severity level.

Impact of harmful use of alcohol on the sedation of critical patients on mechanical ventilation: A multicentre prospective, observational study in 8 Spanish intensive care units.
To evaluate the impact of a history of harmful use of alcohol (HUA) on sedoanalgesia practices and outcomes in patients on mechanical ventilation (MV). ⋯ HUA may be associated to a higher risk of SF and WS, and can prolong MV and the duration of stay in the ICU in critical patients. Early identification could allow the implementation of specific sedation strategies aimed at preventing these complications.

Patients treated with micafungin during their stay in intensive care unit.
To determine the reasons of prescription, the characteristics of patients and factors that affected the outcome of critically ill patients treated with micafungin (MCF) during their stay in Spanish ICUs. ⋯ MCF is usually administered at a dose of 100mg/day, without loading dose and in 72.7% of cases as pre-emptive or empirical treatment. Factors that better predicted mortality were indicators of liver insufficiency at the time of starting treatment.
