ReviewConventional MR Imaging in Trauma Management in Pediatrics.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability in children across the world. The aim of initial brain trauma management of pediatric patients is to diagnose the extent of TBI and to determine if immediate neurosurgical intervention is required. A noncontrast computed tomography is the recommended diagnostic imaging choice for all patients with acute moderate to severe TBI. This article outlines the current use of conventional MR imaging in the management of pediatric head trauma and discusses potential future recommendations.

ReviewClinical Updates in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (Concussion).
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects > 3 million people in the United States annually. Although the number of deaths related to severe TBIs has stabalized, mild TBIs, often termed concussions, are increasing. As evidence indicates that a significant proportion of these mild injuries are associated with long-lasting functional deficits that impact work performance, social integration, and may predispose to later cognitive decline, it is important that we (a) recognize these injuries, (b) identify those at highest risk of poor recovery, and (c) initiate appropriate treatments promptly. We discuss the epidemiology of TBI, the most common persistent symptoms, and treatment approaches.

ReviewThe Role of 3D Printing in Treatment Planning of Spine and Sacral Tumors.
Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has proven to have many advantages in spine and sacrum surgery. 3D printing allows the manufacturing of life-size patient-specific anatomic and pathologic models to improve preoperative understanding of patient anatomy and pathology. Additionally, virtual surgical planning using medical computer-aided design software has enabled surgeons to create patient-specific surgical plans and simulate procedures in a virtual environment. This has resulted in reduced operative times, decreased complications, and improved patient outcomes. Combined with new surgical techniques, 3D-printed custom medical devices and instruments using titanium and biocompatible resins and polyamides have allowed innovative reconstructions.

ReviewParathyroid Computed Tomography: Pearls, Pitfalls, and Our Approach.
Parathyroid imaging is predominantly used for preoperative localization of parathyroid lesions in patients with the biochemical diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism. Although imaging algorithms vary, in the era of minimally invasive parathyroidectomy for single parathyroid adenomas, multiphase parathyroid computed tomography (CT) (4-dimensional CT) has emerged as a favored modality for presurgical mapping of parathyroid lesions. Implementation and correct interpretation of these studies can be challenging, although confidence and accuracy improve with experience and volume. This article reviews our approach to parathyroid imaging, focusing on pearls and pitfalls in parathyroid CT with ultrasound as a supportive and complementary modality.
