Long-COVID is a multisystem disease that can lead to significant impairments in health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Following COVID-19 infection, abnormalities on pulmonary function tests (PFT) are common. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate for any correlation between PFT abnormalities and impairment in HRQoL scores following COVID-19 infection. ⋯ Among patients with an abnormal PFT, there was no temporal association with HRQoL scores as measured by EQ-5D-5 L, GAD-7, PHQ-9, and PCL-5. Among patients with a normal PFT, mobility impairment and anxiety may be associated with COVID-19 infection. Following COVID-19 infection, impairment in HRQoL scores is not completely explained by the presence of abnormalities on spirometry.

We aimed to evaluate the prevalence of malnutrition using traditional measures of nutritional assessments like body mass index (BMI), mid-arm circumference (MAC), triceps skin fold thickness (TSF), mid-arm muscle circumference (MAMC), hand grip strength (HGS) and subjective global assessments (SGA) among cirrhotic patients referred for liver transplantation (LT). ⋯ In patients with chronic liver diseases, SGA performed well as a good predictor of malnutrition, this might be because SGA analyses various domains which can be affected in chronic liver disease. Assessing malnutrition early may help in initiating appropriate medical nutritional therapy.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an inflammatory arthritis in which the immune system targets synovial joints. Methotrexate serves as the mainstay of treatment for RA due to its efficacy. However, patients treated with methotrexate are uniquely at risk for vitamin B12 deficiency and hyperhomocysteinemia due to coincident disease risk factors and the fact that methotrexate use is associated with malabsorption. The objective of this study was to assess for vitamin B12 deficiency among patients with RA treated with methotrexate and folic acid. ⋯ Our data show high plasma homocysteine levels among RA patients treated with methotrexate and folic acid. While plasma vitamin B12 levels were similar between the two groups, high plasma homocysteine is also a sensitive marker of vitamin B12 deficiency. Additional studies should evaluate for the presence of clinical features of vitamin B12 deficiency and hyperhomocysteinemia among RA patients treated with methotrexate and folic acid.

We explored the mechanisms of Sanguotang (SGT), a Tibetan medicine, in treating gout arthritis (GA). ⋯ SGT comprehensively contributes to the treatment of GA by regulating UA metabolism, reducing the release of inflammatory factors, and modulating immune and inflammatory pathways.

Evaluate the association between serum urea at admission and during hospital stay with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and in-hospital mortality in patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). ⋯ In conclusion, increased serum urea levels during hospital stay were associated with worse prognosis in IHCA.
