Bing-Neel syndrome, a rare neurological complication of Waldenström macroglobulinemia, is caused by the direct infiltration of malignant lymphoplasmacytic cells into the central nervous system. We report a patient who presented with back pain, weakness, lower extremity numbness, and gait disturbance accompanied by immunoglobulin M paraproteinemia and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma in the bone marrow. ⋯ After chemotherapy, the patient's neurological and radiological findings improved. Magnetic resonance imaging should be considered when the Bing-Neel syndrome diagnosis is unclear.

Elevated strong ion gap: A predictor of the initiation of continuous renal replacement therapy in acute kidney injury.
There is no optimal timing for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in acute kidney injury (AKI). AKI is a reason for the increased unmeasured anions, which refers to the increased organic acids in the blood, and they can be detected by calculating strong ion gap (SIG). SIG level at the moment of the AKI diagnosis may be a predictor for the initiation of CRRT. ⋯ Increased SIG at the moment of the AKI diagnosis in patients with AKI may be a predictive marker to initiate CRRT.

Pulmonary embolism is a significant complication of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, commonly known as histoacryl, used to sclerose bleeding gastroesophageal varices. We present a 50-year-old female with seronegative chronic liver disease who was managed with endoscopic histoacryl injection sclerotherapy for bleeding gastric fundal varices. ⋯ On subsequent outpatient follow-up, the patient showed no signs of any long-term consequences. Our aim is to alert physicians regarding the uncommon occurrence of acute respiratory distress secondary to pulmonary embolism following histoacryl injection sclerotherapy, as well as to describe its clinical and radiological manifestations.

Breast cancer (BCa) is the most frequent malignant tumor in women. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been acknowledged to exert critical regulating functions in various cancers. Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA, p53 induced transcript (LINC-PINT) has been reported to be a chemosensitizer and a tumor suppressor in BCa. However, its downstream molecular mechanism contributing to its tumor-suppressing role remains to be explored in BCa. ⋯ These findings elucidated the anti-tumor role of LINC-PINT in BCa via the miR-576-5p/MEIS2/PPP3CC/NF-κB axis, which suggested that LINC-PINT might serve as a potential therapeutic target for BCa.

The distinction between lung adenocarcinoma-associated malignant pleural effusion (MPE) and tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) continues to pose a challenge. This study sought to assess the supplementary value of tumor markers in enabling a differential diagnosis. ⋯ CEA and CA153 in serum and pleural effusion, and Cyfra21-1 in serum emerge as biomarkers possessing supplementary diagnostic value in distinguishing lung adenocarcinoma-associated MPE from TPE. The diagnostic efficacy of CEA is superior to CA153 and Cyfra21-1. Conversely, the utility of CA125, CA724, NSE, and SCCA appears constrained.
