The purpose of this study was to determine injuries to osteo-ligamentous structures of cervical column, mechanisms, forces, severities and AIS scores from vertical accelerative loading. ⋯ Spine response was tri-phasic. Injuries occurred in roof contact tests with the helmeted head-neck specimen. Multiplicity and unstable nature of AIS = 2 level injuries, albeit at lower severities, might predispose the spine to long-term accelerated degenerative changes. Clinical protocols should include a careful evaluation of sub-catastrophic injuries in military patients.

Narrow cervical canal (NCC) has been a suspected risk factor for later development of cervical myelopathy. However, few studies have evaluated the prevalence in asymptomatic subjects. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of NCC in a large cohort of asymptomatic volunteers. ⋯ The prevalence of NCC was considerably lower among asymptomatic healthy volunteers; the cervical canal diameter in subjects with SCC or ISI was significantly smaller than in asymptomatic subjects; NCC is a risk factor for SCC.

To investigate whether the posterior cranial fossa (PCF) morphology in Chiari I malformation without syringomyelia (also called syrinx) (CMI-only) is different from that in Chiari I malformation with syrinx (CMI-S). ⋯ Small size of the posterior fossa was detected both in CMI cases with and without syrinx. The clivus gradient served as the only morphologic difference in the PCF between CMI-S and CMI-only patients and was correlated with the severity of the syrinx, may support the theory that the restricted circulation of cerebrospinal fluid at the anterior paramedial subarachnoid space contributes to the formation of a syrinx.

To investigate the prevalence of axial symptoms (AS) in patients following posterior cervical decompression. ⋯ Posterior cervical surgery carries a high risk of postoperative AS. Postoperative AS may be reduced through preserving posterior muscles and structures, stabilizing cervical vertebrae, and reducing external cervical immobilization time.

A prospective clinical and radiographic 12-month outcome study of patients undergoing single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for symptomatic cervical degenerative disc disease utilizing a novel viable allogeneic, cancellous, bone matrix (trinity evolution™) with a comparison to historical controls.
This multicenter clinical study was performed to assess the safety and effectiveness of Trinity Evolution(®) (TE), a viable cellular bone allograft, in combination with a PEEK interbody spacer and supplemental anterior fixation in patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). ⋯ Patients undergoing single-level ACDF with TE in combination with a PEEK interbody spacer and supplemental anterior fixation had a high rate of fusion success without serious allograft-related adverse events.
