Accuracy of pedicle screw insertion in posterior scoliosis surgery: a comparison between intraoperative navigation and preoperative navigation techniques.
This study was conducted to compare the efficacy and accuracy of intraoperative navigation (O-arm or Arcadis navigation) and preoperative CT-based navigation in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) surgery. ⋯ Both preoperative CT-based and intraoperative navigation systems provide sufficient accuracy and safety in pedicle screw insertion for AIS surgery. Intraoperative navigation systems facilitate pedicle screw insertion in the apical region and reduce registration time during AIS surgery which improves the efficacy and accuracy of pedicle screw insertion.

Population-based normative data for the Scoliosis Research Society 22r questionnaire in adolescents and adults, including a comparison with EQ-5D.
The Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) 22r questionnaire is a widely used instrument. To estimate the disorder´s impact on quality of life and to gain knowledge about treatment effects, normative values are needed. ⋯ We provide the first SRS-22r normative data for adolescents and adults overall. We found a good correlation between SRS-22r and EQ-5D in individuals without spinal deformity.

Flattening of rods is known to reduce the correction capability of the instrumentation, but has not been studied in 3D. The aim is to evaluate the rods shape 3D changes during and immediately after instrumentation, and its effect on 3D correction. ⋯ Correction maneuvers induce a significant change of the concave rod profile. Both rods end in a plane deviated from the sagittal plane which is representative of the spinal curvature 3D orientation. Differential rod contouring technique has a significant impact on the resulting thoracic kyphosis and transverse plane correction.

To determine the relationship between low body mass index (BMI) and the outcome of brace treatment in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). ⋯ The low BMI could be predictive of bracing failure in AIS patients, which should be taken into account when surgeons prescribe brace treatment to such patients.
