(1) To analyse the clinical utility of the STarT Back Screening Tool (SBST) in emergency departments by describing changes in classification over time and; (2) to identify what would be the best time to use the SBST to predict long-term clinical outcomes in patients with acute nonspecific low back pain (LBP) seeking emergency care. ⋯ Most of patients seeking care in emergency departments with a new episode of acute LBP improved after 6 weeks. The use of SBST to guide initial treatment and to predict clinical outcomes are most indicated when the instrument is applied after 6 weeks after presentation to emergency care. To investigate differences in functional intervertebral disk (IVD) characteristics between low back pain (LBP) patients and controls using T2-mapping with axial loading during MRI (alMRI). ⋯ The alMRI-induced differences in T2-value in ROI4 and ROI5 between patients and controls most probably indicate biomechanical impairment in the posterior IVD regions. Hence, alMRI combined with T2-mapping offers an objective and clinical feasible tool for biomechanical IVD characterization that may deepen the knowledge regarding how LBP is related to altered IVD matrix composition. Lateral mass screws combined with rods are the standard method for posterior cervical spine subaxial fixation. Several techniques have been described, among which the most used are Roy Camille, Magerl, Anderson and An. All of them are based on tridimensional angles. Reliability of freehand angle estimation remains poorly investigated. We propose a new technique based on on-site spatial references and compare it with previously described ones assessing screw length and neurovascular potential complications. ⋯ The new proposed technique allows for longer screws, maximizing purchase and stability, while lowering the complication rate.
