Jumper's fracture of the sacrum: a novel and reproducible way for successful reduction and fixation.
Surgical treatment of jumper's fractures is a highly demanding situation for the surgeon due to its rareness and frequent association with severe concomitant injuries. There is no current consensus regarding a standard treatment approach, thus reducing quality of care. Our objectives were to describe, apply and assess a novel surgical technic. ⋯ We present one of the largest studies with operatively treated jumper's fractures of the sacrum. The technique is capable of reproducibly restoring the physiological anatomy of the patient and allows pain-adapted mobilization.

To evaluate the effect of homogeneous spinal-shortening axial decompression procedure (HSAD) on bladder function in patients with spina bifida tethered syndrome. ⋯ The HSAD can significantly restore the bladder function in patients with long-term urinary incontinence.

Navigation is becoming more useful in percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (PPSF). The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency, fluoroscopic time, accuracy, and clinical outcomes of PPSF with a novel electromagnetic navigation (EMN) system for thoraco-lumbar (TL) fractures with those of PPSF with conventional C-arm fluoroscopic (CF) guidance. ⋯ Compared with PPSF by using conventional fluoroscopic guidance, PPSF with the aid of the EMN system can increase the efficiency and accuracy of pedicle screw placement and reduce the fluoroscopic time.

The coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to a compulsory lockdown of 3 months with strict restrictions. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has shown broad repercussions on patients with chronic pain; especially for conditions that present a significant emotional participation such as chronic low back pain (cLBP). ⋯ Lockdown affected the somatic component of cLBP by decreasing activities and physical measures, whereas the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic spectrum paradoxically improved the psychic and emotional component of cLBP.

To determine the impact of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on fracture classification for low lumbar fractures (LLFs) compared to CT alone. ⋯ CT was highly accurate (95%) for diagnosis of PLC injury in LLFs. Addition of MRI after CT did not change the AO classification or TLISS, compared to CT alone, thus suggesting limited additional value of MRI for PLC assessment or fracture classification.
