To test whether multiple-level unilateral thoracic spinal nerves (TSN) resection can induce the initial thoracic cage deformity to cause early onset thoracic scoliosis in an immature porcine model; and 2) to create an early onset thoracic scoliosis in a large animal model that can be used to evaluate growth-friendly surgical techniques and instruments in growing spine researches. ⋯ Unilateral TSN resection induced the initial thoracic deformity toward the TSN resection side resulting in thoracic hypokyphotic scoliosis in an immature pig model. This early onset thoracic scoliosis model could be used to evaluate the growth-friendly surgical techniques and instruments in future growing spine researches.

Incidence of cardiac anomalies in congenital vertebral deformity: systematic review and meta-analysis of 2910 patients.
This study aimed to analyze the overall incidence of cardiac abnormalities in patients with congenital scoliosis and the possible influencing factors. ⋯ This meta-analysis revealed that the overall incidence of cardiac abnormalities detected in patients with congenital vertebral deformity was 22.56%. The incidence rate of cardiac anomalies was higher in females and those with formation defects. The study offers guidance for ultrasound practitioners to accurately identify and diagnose the most common cardiac anomalies.

Correlation of radiographic parameters and patient satisfaction in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis treated with posterior screw-dual-rod instrumentation.
In surgical treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), only a few studies measure both, radiological parameters and PROMs and correlate them. ⋯ In summary, results of this study demonstrate good surgical correction and significant improvement of most PROMs.
