Incidence and prognostic factors of residual back pain in patients treated for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) is a common consequence of osteoporosis and can significantly impact the quality of life for affected individuals. Despite treatment options such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, many patients continue to experience residual back pain (RBP) even after the fracture has healed. The incidence of RBP after OVCF treatment varies among studies, and there is a need for further research to understand the risk factors associated with RBP. ⋯ This study provides potential value within the scope of the incidence and risk factors of RBP following treatment of OVCFs. The identified risk factors can help clinicians identify high-risk patients and tailor appropriate interventions. Future research should focus on standardizing the definition of RBP and patient selection criteria to improve the accuracy of estimates and facilitate better management strategies for OVCF patients.

Are combined conservative interventions effective in reducing pain, disability and/or global rating of pain in people with sciatica with known neuropathic pain mechanisms?
National Clinical Guidelines recommend an integrated combination of conservative management strategies for sciatica. However, the efficacy of such combinations have not been established. The purpose of this systemic review with meta-analysis was to determine the efficacy of combined conservative (non-pharmacological) compared to single interventions for people with sciatica with a confirmed neuropathic mechanism. ⋯ There are few studies that have combined conservative (non-pharmacological) interventions for the management of sciatica with a neuropathic component pain mechanism, as recommended by National Clinical Guidelines. This review indicates that combining conservative (no-pharmacological) management strategies appeared more effective than single interventions for the outcomes of low back pain in the short and long term, and for disability in the short term, but not for leg pain at any time point. The overall low certainty of evidence, suggests that future studies with more robust methodologies are needed.

Efficacy and safety of laminoplasty combined with C3 laminectomy for patients with multilevel degenerative cervical myelopathy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Laminoplasty (LP) combined with C3 laminectomy (LN) can effectively achieve spinal cord decompression while maintaining the integrity of the posterior ligament-muscle complex, thereby minimizing cervical muscle damage. However, its necessity and safety remain controversial. This study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of LP and LP combined with C3 LN in the treatment of patients with multilevel degenerative cervical spondylotic myelopathy (DCM). ⋯ LP combined with C3 LN is an effective and necessary surgical method for multilevel DCM patients to maintain cervical sagittal balance. However, due to the low quality of evidence in existing studies, more and higher quality research on the technology is needed in the future.

This study aimed to consolidate the evidence regarding the prognostic influence of sarcopenia in degenerative lumbar spine surgeries. ⋯ As compared to patients without sarcopenia, those with sarcopenia undergoing lumbar spine surgery for degenerative diseases have lower improvements in functional ability, quality of life, physical health, pain relief and extended hospitalization compared to those without sarcopenia.

Timing of decompression in central cord syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study compared the recovery of motor function and the safety of early and delayed surgical intervention in patients with central cord syndrome (CCS). ⋯ Early surgical decompression for CCS can improve motor function and reduce the incidence of complications without affecting the mortality rate in patients. Future research should focus on investigating and analyzing the optimal window period for early CCS surgery. Additionally, the timing of surgery should be determined based on the patient's condition and available medical resources.
