A multicenter cross-sectional study. ⋯ Trunk muscle mass was significantly associated with the ODI, VAS score, SVA, and EQ5D score. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) can identify painful lumbar discs and may facilitate improved clinical outcomes of lumbar surgeries for discogenic pain.
The goal of this study was to refine clinical MRS to optimize performance and then determine whether MRS-derived biomarkers reliably identify painful discs, quantify degeneration severity, and forecast surgical outcomes for chronic low back pain (CLBP) patients. ⋯ MRS correlates with PD and may support improved surgical outcomes for CLBP patients. Noninvasive MRS is a potentially valuable approach to clarifying pain mechanisms and designing CLBP therapies that are customized to the patient. Characteristics of deformity surgery in patients with severe and rigid cervical kyphosis (CK): results of the CSRS-Europe multi-centre study project.
Little information exists on surgical characteristics, complications and outcomes with corrective surgery for rigid cervical kyphosis (CK). To collate the experience of international experts, the CSRS-Europe initiated an international multi-centre retrospective study. ⋯ Preop patient specific, radiographic and surgical variables had a significant bearing on alignment changes, outcomes and complication occurrence in the treatment of rigid CK.

Non-neurologic adverse events after complex adult spinal deformity surgery: results from the prospective, multicenter Scoli-RISK-1 study.
Accurate information regarding the expected complications of complex adult spinal deformity (ASD) is important for shared decision making and informed consent. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the rate and types of non-neurologic adverse events after complex ASD surgeries, and to identify risk factors that affect their occurrence. ⋯ The incidence of non-neurologic adverse events for patients undergoing corrective surgeries for ASD was 67.6%. Previous spinal surgery was the only independent risk factor predicting the occurrence of non-neurologic adverse events. These findings complement the earlier report of neurologic complications after ASD surgeries from the Scoli-RISK-1 study. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.

Factors associated with having an indication for surgery in adult spinal deformity: an international european multicentre study.
The aim of this study was to evaluate factors that distinguish between patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD) with and without an indication for surgery, irrespective of their final treatment. ⋯ Specific sets of variables were found to be associated with an indication for surgery in patients with ASD. These should be investigated in relation to patient outcomes for their potential to guide the future development of decision aids in the treatment of ASD.
