This retrospective cohort study investigated the efficacy of a sublingual sufentanil tablet system (SSTS) in comparison to intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IV-PCA) with piritramide for the management of postoperative pain following lumbar spinal fusion surgery. ⋯ The SSTS is a potentially advantageous alternative to opioid IV-PCA for use within a multimodal approach to managing postoperative pain after lumbar fusion surgery. Furthermore, the potentially higher emetic effect of SSTS should be considered, and the patient should be able to perform the application.

Chordomas and chondrosarcomas are locally destructive tumors with high progression or recurrence rates after initial multimodality treatment. This report examined the role of radiosurgery in patients who were considered inoperable after the recurrence of large chordoma disease having undergone previous surgery and/or radiotherapy. ⋯ Diagnostic: individual cross-sectional studies with consistently applied reference standard and blinding.

This study aimed to determine the association of preoperative malnutrition with an increased risk of cervical kyphosis after laminoplasty in geriatric patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). ⋯ Among geriatric CSM patients, preoperative malnutrition was closely associated with the increased occurrence of cervical kyphosis after laminoplasty. Our results underscore the importance of preoperative nutritional assessment and management in geriatric populations undergoing cervical spine surgery, as malnutrition is a perioperative modifiable risk factor.

To evaluate the MRI findings of the craniocervical junction ligaments and compare the 2D TSE sequence and 3D SPACE sequence on cervical spine MRI. ⋯ The utilization of 3D sequences significantly improves the visibility of TL and could potentially reduce false-positive diagnoses of ligament injury.

Hybrid constructs with sublaminar bands have recently regained popularity as an alternative to all-screw construct for correction of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The aim of this study is to evaluate the ability of hybrid constructs with sublaminar bands to achieve a tridimensional correction of the scoliotic deformity. Our hypothesis is that hybrid construct with sublaminar bands are able to achieve a substantial derotation of the apical vertebrae, while preserving the thoracic kyphosis. ⋯ Hybrid construct with sublaminar band have been showed to be safe and effective in deformity correction and in maintaining or restoring thoracic kyphosis. This study showed that with sublaminar bands applied at the curve apex a substantial derotation of the apical vertebrae can be achieved.
