Case Reports Meta Analysis
Clinical features and treatment strategy of paraspinal arteriovenous shunt (PAVS): a systematic review with individual participants data meta-analysis.
Because of the rarity of the disease, paraspinal arteriovenous shunt (PAVS) is not well recognized, and therapeutic options remain controversial. To introduce a rare disease of PAVS and demonstrate its etiology, clinical features, treatment options, and outcomes, we presented a case report and conducted a systematic review and individual participants data (IPD) meta-analysis. ⋯ General as well as location-specific characteristics of PAVS is successfully demonstrated. Approximately 20% of the incomplete obliteration is noted, and three potential poor prognostic factors are identified, namely, 'etiology of systematic genetic dysplasia (positive) and trauma (negative)', 'combined approach (negative), and 'multiple feeders'.

Surgical outcomes following hemivertebrectomy in congenital scoliosis: a systematic review and observational meta-analysis.
Hemivertebrectomy is widely used definitive correction surgery in congenital scoliosis due to hemivertebrae. It may be done either as combined anterior and posterior approach or a single-stage posterior approach only. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to compare two techniques with regards to blood loss, operative time, deformity correction and complications. ⋯ IV.

The role of TaqI, ApaI and BsmI polymorphisms of VDR gene in lumbar spine pathologies: systematic review and meta-analysis.
The objective of the present meta-analysis was to evaluate the association between TaqI (rs731236), ApaI (rs7975232) and BsmI (rs1544410) polymorphisms of the VDR gene and lumbar spine pathologies such as lumbar disc herniation and lumbar disc degeneration. ⋯ Our findings indicate that TaqI and ApaI polymorphisms of the VDR gene are important risk factors for developing lumbar spine pathologies. Moreover, the TaqI polymorphism is a risk factor for lumbar disc degeneration.

Sagittal balance of the cervical spine: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to compare the cervical sagittal parameters between patients with cervical spine disorder and asymptomatic controls. ⋯ The findings showed that the T1 slope and the cSVA were significantly lower among patients with cervical spine disorder compared to controls and higher for the SCA. Further well-conducted studies are needed to complement our findings.

The association of polymorphisms in TNF and ankylosing spondylitis in common population: a meta-analysis.
Studies investigating the association between the polymorphisms in TNF and ankylosing spondylitis have been reported the conflicting results. Here we performed a meta-analysis based on the evidence available from the literature up-to-date to further clarify this relationship. ⋯ Our meta-analysis suggests that TNF-α polymorphisms at positions - 238, - 308, - 850, - 1031 and rs769178 could have an influence on ankylosing spondylitis susceptibility in the total population. But there is no association of the TNF-376, TNF-857, TNF-863 polymorphisms with ankylosing spondylitis. Some results in the subgroups are not consistent with those in the total population.
