Although chronic low back pain (LBP) is a complex condition often associated with altered motor control and compensatory postural adjustments, existing literature provides inconsistent reports on the underlying control mechanisms for maintaining balance. ⋯ Although no significant group interaction was observed for dominance, direction, and trial, the LBP group demonstrated an ability to leverage fall efficacy following repeated trials to reduce ML balance deficits. Clinicians should consider neuromuscular control and limb dominance when developing fall efficacy strategies for postural adaptations in adults with LBP.

Topical vancomycin powder for the prevention of surgical site infections in spinal deformity surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To assess the effectiveness and safety of topical vancomycin powder (VP) in preventing surgical site infections (SSIs) in spinal deformity surgeries. ⋯ From the literature available at present, VP was associated with reduced deep SSIs rates in spinal deformity patients. However, particular attention should be paid to the lack of the effectiveness of VP in NMS patients. The current literature did not report local cytotoxicity or renal toxicity related to VP in spinal deformity patients.

Owing to the unknow types of infiltrating macrophages and the corresponded factors, we aimed to investigate the specific types of infiltrating macrophages involved in HLF and the expression of macrophage-related factors. ⋯ The infiltration of M2 macrophages may be involved in HLF, while involvement of M1 macrophages may only occur early in inflammation. The expression of extracellular matrix proteins and macrophage-related factors was increased. Aging may also be associated with HLF.

This study aimed to evaluate the difference in treatment duration and unplanned additional surgeries between patients with unidentified causative organisms on empiric antibiotics and those with identified organisms on selective antibiotics in treating thoracolumbar pyogenic spondylitis with minimally invasive posterior fixation. ⋯ The use of empiric antibiotics in minimally invasive posterior fixation was effective without identifying the causative organism and did not prolong treatment duration. In patients with identified organisms, 12% required unplanned additional surgery, indicating a more challenging infection control. Causative organism identification was associated with the need for additional surgery, suggesting a more cautious treatment strategy for these patients.
