Topical vancomycin powder for the prevention of surgical site infections in spinal deformity surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To assess the effectiveness and safety of topical vancomycin powder (VP) in preventing surgical site infections (SSIs) in spinal deformity surgeries. ⋯ From the literature available at present, VP was associated with reduced deep SSIs rates in spinal deformity patients. However, particular attention should be paid to the lack of the effectiveness of VP in NMS patients. The current literature did not report local cytotoxicity or renal toxicity related to VP in spinal deformity patients.

We aimed to prospectively evaluate the association between leisure-time physical activity and outcomes related to low back pain (LBP), such as pain intensity and daily activity limitation. ⋯ Not practicing at least 150 min/week of physical activity resulted in higher levels of pain and an increased risk of daily activity limitation in individuals with LBP. Moreover, various forms of activities have shown to be advantageous in alleviating pain among this group.

Aims to establish the superiority of our proposed model over the state-of-the-art vertebra-focused landmark detection network (VFLDNet) in automating Cobb angle estimation from spinal radiographs. ⋯ Our model emerges as the superior choice for automated Cobb angle estimation, particularly in assessing major curve and moderate to severe scoliosis, underscoring its potential to revolutionize clinical workflows and enhance patient care.

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is an evidence-based multimodal perioperative management strategy. The aim of the present study was to analyze the clinical efficacy of ERAS in elderly patients (> 70 years old) undergoing multi-level posterior lumbar or thoracolumbar instrumented fusion for degenerative diseases. ⋯ In conclusion, the present study reported the first ERAS principles performed in multi-level lumbar or thoracolumbar instrumented fusion for degenerative conditions. Our outcomes shown that the implementation of ERAS in these populations is favorable for reducing LOS and decreasing overall number of complications though the comparable complication rates between two groups. Totally, our ERAS protocols were safe and feasible in these populations.

This study aims to elucidate the association between MRI measurements of spine alterations and self-reported outcomes of pain and disability in individuals with non-specific low back pain, using a comprehensive perspective based on machine learning algorithm. ⋯ A partial association between MRI measurements and self-reported outcomes of pain and disability was confirmed. Disc degeneration was the most correlated with the reported indexes, while canal stenosis mainly affected the pain levels in the leg region. The presence of endplate lesions did not demonstrate any significant relationships.
