Postoperative quality of recovery with erector spinae plane block or thoracolumbar interfascial plane block after major spinal surgery: a randomized controlled trial.
Major spinal surgery causes severe postoperative pain. The present randomized, controlled, prospective study tested the short- and long-term effects of thoracolumbar interfascial and erector spinae plane blocks on patient-centered outcomes for major lumbar spinal surgery. ⋯ Both blocks resulted in similar quality of recovery in the postoperative 24-h period in major spinal surgery and were effective in terms of analgesia.

Clinical and radiological results of TLIF surgery with titanium-coated PEEK or uncoated PEEK cages: a prospective single-centre randomised study.
A comparison of fusion rates and clinical outcomes of instrumented transforaminal interbody fusion (TLIF) between polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and titanium-coated PEEK (Ti-PEEK) cages is not well documented. ⋯ There is no significant advantage of TiPEEK cages over PEEK cages in clinical outcome and fusion rate 2 years after surgery.

Learning curve of junior surgeons in robot-assisted pedicle screw placement: a comparative cohort study.
Robot-assisted technology has been gradually applied to pedicle screw placement in spinal surgery. This study was designed to detailedly evaluate the learning curve of junior surgeons in robot-assisted spine surgery. ⋯ Robot-assisted technique has its advantages in the upper thoracic region and deformity cases, which is easier and safer to insert pedicle screws. The robot-assisted technique allowed a short learning curve for junior surgeons and exhibited consistently excellent results even in the early application period.

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) levels following erector spinae plane block (ESPB) in posterior lumbar decompression: a randomized, controlled trial.
Neutrophile-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are the inflammatory biomarkers of the stress response. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of erector spinae plane block (ESPB) on posterior lumbar decompression and stabilization by comparing NLR, PLR, postoperative pain, opioid consumption, and functional recovery between sham block and ESPB. ⋯ ESPB performance during spinal surgery lowers NRL and PLR ratios 12 h and 24 h after surgery. In addition, ESPB provides better analgesia and improves functional recovery compared to sham block following posterior lumbar decompression and stabilization.

Comparison of full-endoscopic and tubular-based microscopic decompression in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis: a randomized controlled trial.
We aimed to demonstrate non-inferiority in terms of functional outcomes in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who underwent full-endoscopic decompression compared with tubular-based microscopic decompression. ⋯ This study suggests that full-endoscopic decompression is an alternative treatment for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis because it provides non-inferior clinical efficacy and safety compared with tubular-based microscopic surgery. In addition, it offers advantages in terms of less invasive surgery. Trial registration number (TRN): TCTR20191217001.
