Clinical effectiveness of reduction and fusion versus in situ fusion in the management of degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To compare the clinical effectiveness of reduction and fusion with in situ fusion in the management of patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS). ⋯ While the reduction and fusion group demonstrated a statistically longer operating time compared to the in situ fusion group, the clinical significance of this difference was minimal. The findings suggest no substantial superiority of lumbar fusion with reduction over without reduction for the management of DLS.

Open heart surgery is the most common treatment for congenital heart disease. Thoracotomy, sternotomy, or a combination of both are the main approaches used in open heart surgeries. In cardiac surgery, there have been concerns that these surgeries increase the likelihood of spinal deformities. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis provided updated evidence on the prevalence of spinal deformities following congenital heart surgery. ⋯ This review suggests that the prevalence of spinal deformities was high among patients who underwent sternotomy or thoracotomy.

How does vertical laminar fracture impact the decision-making in thoracolumbar fractures? A systematic scoping review and meta-analysis.
Although vertical laminar fracture (VLF) is generally considered a severity marker for thoracolumbar fractures (TLFs), its exact role in decision-making has never been established. This scoping review aims to synthesize the research on VLF's role in the decision-making of TLFs. ⋯ VLF may have several important diagnostic and therapeutic implications in managing TLFs. VLF may help to distinguish AO type A3 from A4 fractures. VLF may help to predict preoperatively the occurrence of dural laceration, thereby choosing the optimal surgical strategy. Clinical and biomechanical data suggest VLF may be a valuable modifier to guide the decision-making in burst fractures; however, more studies are needed to confirm its prognostic importance regarding treatment outcomes.

Incidence and risk factors of distal adjacent disc degeneration in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients undergoing fusion surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The objective of this meta-analysis was to determine the incidence of disc degeneration in patients with surgically treated adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and identify the associated risk factors. ⋯ This meta-analysis demonstrated that the incidence of intervertebral disc degeneration significantly increased with long-term follow-up using fusion techniques, reaching up to 32% when patients were 28 years of age. Incomplete correction of deformity and fusion of levels below L3, were identified as negative prognostic factors. Furthermore, patients with disc degeneration showed worse functional outcomes.

Assessing the predictive power of the GAP score on mechanical complications: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.
The prevention of mechanical complications (MC) is a major concern in adult spinal deformity (ASD) correction surgery; thus, the global alignment and proportion (GAP) score was developed to assess MC risk. Numerous studies have clarified the validity of the GAP score, but their contradictory results have prevented researchers from reaching compelling conclusions. This study aimed to analyze the predictive power of the GAP score on MC via a meta-analysis. ⋯ The GAP score offers predictive value for the risk of mechanical complications.
