Multicenter StudyCultural adaptation and validation of a German version of the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales (AIMS2).
To validate a translated and culturally adapted version of the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scale (AIMS) 2 in primary care patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip and knee. ⋯ The GERMAN-AIMS2 is a reliable and valid instrument to assess the quality of life (QoL) in primary care patients suffering from OA.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyAceclofenac vs paracetamol in the management of symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee: a double-blind 6-week randomized controlled trial.
To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of aceclofenac, 200 mg/day, and paracetamol, 3000 mg/day, in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. ⋯ At 6 weeks, patients with symptomatic OA of the knee showed a greater improvement in pain and functional capacity with aceclofenac than paracetamol with no difference in tolerability.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialResponsiveness and clinically important differences for the WOMAC and SF-36 after total knee replacement.
To study responsiveness and establish the minimal clinically important differences (MCIDs) and minimal detectable change (MDC) in patients undergoing total knee replacement (TKR) using the Short Form 36 (SF-36) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). ⋯ The MCID for TKR is around 15 on WOMAC, while with the SF-36 of at least 10 points. These values should not be considered as absolute thresholds.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyAn analgesic model for assessment of acute pain response in osteoarthritis of the knee.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is frequently treated only during periods of flare, in which rapid onset of analgesia is the outcome target. ⋯ This acute pain model of knee OA flare detected significant pain relief with agents known to relieve pain in OA and placebo within hours after the first treatment dose, allowing assessment of pain relief within hours rather than days or weeks when evaluating analgesic efficacy in OA. This model is undergoing further study to determine optimal walk times, distances, and rates to maximize its sensitivity.

Multicenter StudySynovitis: a potential predictive factor of structural progression of medial tibiofemoral knee osteoarthritis -- results of a 1 year longitudinal arthroscopic study in 422 patients.
To evaluate the prevalence of synovitis in painful medial tibiofemoral knee osteoarthritis (OA) and to evaluate correlation between synovitis and the structural severity and progression of tibiofemoral cartilage damage. ⋯ This study suggests that abnormalities of the medial perimeniscal synovium are a common feature of painful medial knee OA, associated with more severe medial chondropathy. It also suggests that an inflammatory aspect of the medial perimeniscal synovium could be considered as a predictive factor of subsequent increased degradation of medial chondropathy.
