Comparative StudyCOPD Alters Immune Cell Composition and Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Efficacy in NSCLC.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are interrelated diseases with substantial mortality, and the pathogenesis of both involves aberrant immune functioning. ⋯ In patients with COPD, Th1 cell populations were expanded in both lung and tumor microenvironments, and the presence of COPD was associated with longer progression-free intervals in patients treated with ICIs. This has implications for understanding the immune mediators of COPD and developing novel therapies for NSCLC.

Interferon-stimulated Gene Expression, Type-2 Inflammation and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Asthma.
Quantification of type 2 inflammation provided a molecular basis for heterogeneity in asthma. Non-type 2 pathways that contribute to asthma pathogenesis are not well understood. ⋯ ISG activation is prominent in asthma, independent of viral transcripts, orthogonal to type 2 inflammation, and associated with distinct clinical features. ER stress is associated with both type 2 inflammation and ISG expression.
