Background and Objectives: Interest in artificial intelligence (AI) for outcome prediction has grown substantially in recent years. However, the prognostic role of AI using advanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) remains unclear. This systematic review assesses the existing literature on AI in CMR to predict outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. ⋯ Results: A total of 5 studies were included, with a total of 3679 patients, with 225 deaths and 265 major adverse cardiovascular events. Three methods demonstrated high prognostic accuracy: (1) three-dimensional motion assessment model in pulmonary hypertension (hazard ratio (HR) 2.74, 95%CI 1.73−4.34, p < 0.001), (2) automated perfusion quantification in patients with coronary artery disease (HR 2.14, 95%CI 1.58−2.90, p < 0.001), and (3) automated volumetric, functional, and area assessment in patients with myocardial infarction (HR 0.94, 95%CI 0.92−0.96, p < 0.001). Conclusion: There is emerging evidence of the prognostic role of AI in predicting outcomes for three-dimensional motion assessment in pulmonary hypertension, ischaemia assessment by automated perfusion quantification, and automated functional assessment in myocardial infarction.

The aim of this review is to highlight all the factors that associate venous thromboembolism (VTE) with aging. Elderly people are characterized by a higher incidence of thrombosis taking into account the co-existing comorbidities, complications and fatality that arise. Based on the Virchow triad, pathophysiological aspects of venous stasis, endothelium injury and hypercoagulability in elderly people (≥65 years) are described in detail. ⋯ A "low-grade inflammation stage" is delineated as a possible risk factor for thrombosis in the elderly. Consequently, clinical implications for frail elderly people related to diagnosis, treatment, bleeding danger and VTE recurrence emerge. We conclude that aging is an acquired thrombotic factor closely related to pathophysiological changes.

Checkrein deformity (CD) is a dynamic deformity of the hallux characterized by flexion contracture of the interphalangeal (IF) joint and extension contracture of the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint, worsened by ankle dorsiflexion. It is due to post-traumatic or ischemic retraction of the long hallux flexor tendon (FHL) following soft tissue trauma, leg fractures, ankle fractures and, more rarely, calcaneal or talar fractures. Diagnosis is essentially clinical, associated with imaging, to rule out unrecognized causes and evaluate fracture healing process. ⋯ No recurrence, loss of strength, nerve injury or tarsal tunnel syndrome were observed. No patient required revision surgery. Conclusions: In this case series the retro-malleolar FHL tendon Z-plasty proved to be a suitable option for CD correction, allowing a good clinical and functional recovery.

Background and Objectives: Advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has led to a high number of mortalities. Immunotherapy, as a first-line treatment in advanced NSCLC, currently has no clarity regarding its prognostic markers to assess the treatment outcome. This systematic review aimed to evaluate neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) as prognostic markers in advanced NSCLC patients treated with immunotherapy. ⋯ Higher NLR and PLR levels are associated with poor prognostic. Conclusions: There is considerable evidence regarding both markers as prognostic markers in NSCLC patients treated with immunotherapy. However, further studies with more homogeneous baseline characteristics are required to confirm these findings.
