Background and Objectives: Posterior compartment prolapse is associated with constipation and obstructed defecation syndrome. However, there is still a lack of consensus on the optimal treatment for this condition. We aim to investigate functional, anatomical, and quality-of-life outcomes of native tissue transvaginal repair of isolated symptomatic rectocele. ⋯ Additionally, obstructed defecation symptoms decreased significantly compared to baseline (p < 0.001), as well as vaginal bulging, with no new-onset cases of fecal incontinence or de novo dyspareunia. PGI-I resulted in 89.2% of patients being satisfied (PGI-I ≥ 2), with a median score of 1.5. Conclusions: Transvaginal native tissue repair for isolated posterior prolapse is safe and effective in managing bowel symptoms, with excellent anatomical and functional outcomes and satisfactory improvement in patients’ quality of life.

Background and Objectives: Although many studies have reported that kidney donation is not physically harmful to living kidney donors, there are few studies on the psychological changes that they experience, especially post-traumatic growth. This study aimed to investigate the influence of self-determination and social support on post-traumatic growth among living kidney donors. Materials and Methods: This study used a descriptive, cross-sectional design. ⋯ In particular, the relatedness of self-determination was a significant factor affecting changed perceptions of self, relating to others, and spiritual change, subscales of post-traumatic growth. Additionally, the social support of donors' significant others was a significant factor affecting relating to others and new possibilities, subscales of post-traumatic growth. Conclusions: Healthcare providers should endeavor to help living kidney donors experience post-traumatic growth, which can be facilitated by improving their self-determination and social support.

Background and Objectives: Neutropenic fever (NF) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). To date, no study has discussed the relationship of fever days in HSCT with the time between recording the fever and administering antibiotics. This study aimed to examine the association between fever days in HSCT and the time interval between recording the fever and intravenous (IV) antibiotics to the febrile neutropenia patient. ⋯ The odds ratio of “antibiotics given time” was 4.00 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.26 to 7.22, p = 0.001). The “antibiotics level” did not affect the NF period (odds ratio = −0.80, 95% CI = −2.40 to 1.07, p = 0.453). Conclusions: Rapid IV administration of antibiotics (<30 min after fever attack) can reduce the fever days in patients undergoing HSCT.

Background and objectives: Treatment of a displaced or comminuted periprosthetic distal femur fracture is challenging, especially in patients with osteoporosis. In this case report, we shared our successful surgical experience of using a long intramedullary fibula bone graft in a plate fixation surgery for a periprosthetic distal femur fracture in an extremely elderly patient with osteoporosis. Case report: A 95-year-old woman with severe osteoporosis (bone mineral density level: -3.0) presented with right knee pain and deformity after a fall, and a right periprosthetic distal femur fracture was identified. ⋯ Conclusions: We present a case wherein a long intramedullary allogenous fibula strut bone graft was used successfully to treat a right periprosthetic femur fracture in an extremely elderly patient. A long allogenous fibula bone graft can act not only as a firm structure for bridging the bone defect but also as a guide for precise component alignment. We believe this treatment option for periprosthetic fractures is beneficial for achieving biological and mechanical stability and facilitates early mobilization and weight-bearing for the patient.

Background and Objectives: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of simulated gastric acid associated with toothbrushing on the surface condition of three resin-modified glass-ionomer cements (RMGIC). Materials and Methods: One hundred and sixty samples of each material were obtained and included in three study groups according to the tested material: Group I (Ionolux, VOCO GmbH, Cuxhaven, Germany); Group II (Vitremer, 3 M-ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA); and Group III (Fuji II LC, GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan). ⋯ Results: Exposure of RMGICs to the erosive effect of hydrochloric acid in association with toothbrushing 30 min after the chemical attack increased the surface roughness of all three RMGICs. Exposure of the three tested materials exclusively to the action of hydrochloric acid did not affect the surface roughness. Conclusions: One year of hydrochloric acid challenge associated with one year of toothbrushing with medium-hardness bristles performed 30 min after the acid attack increase the surface roughness of two of the three types of RMGIC tested (Ionolux and Fuji II LC).
