ReviewTriple model of auditory sensory processing: a novel gating stream directly links primary auditory areas to executive prefrontal cortex.
The generally accepted model of sensory processing of visual and auditory stimuli assumes two major parallel processing streams, ventral and dorsal, which comprise functionally and anatomically distinct but interacting processes in which the ventral stream supports stimulus identification, and the dorsal stream is involved in recognizing the stimulus spatial location and sensori-motor integration functions. However, recent studies suggest the existence of a third, very fast sensory processing pathway, a gating stream that directly links the primary auditory cortices to the executive prefrontal cortex within the first 50 milliseconds after presentation of a stimulus, bypassing hierarchical structure of the ventral and dorsal pathways. ⋯ The goal of the present paper is to introduce the novel 'three-stream' model of auditory processing, including the new fast sensory processing stream, i.e. gating stream, alongside the well-affirmed dorsal and ventral sensory processing pathways. The impairments in sensory processing along the gating stream have been found to be strongly involved in the pathophysiological sensory processing in Alzheimer's disease and could be the underlying issue in numerous neuropsychiatric disorders and diseases that are linked to the pathological sensory gating inhibition, such as schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

CORRELATION BETWEEN THE LEVEL OF COLORECTAL ANASTOMOSIS AND ANORECTAL FUNCTION.
Anterior rectal resection is a standard surgical procedure for treating carcinomas of rectum and distal sigmoid colon. In many cases of anterior rectal resection, postoperatively some level of fecal incontinence may occur. The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of the colorectal anastomosis level on anorectal functional disorder. ⋯ Patients with a lower level of anastomosis had a statistically significantly greater number of stools, higher urgency and discrimination impairment, more pronounced solid, liquid and gas incontinence, and greater need for diapers (p<0.05 all). Therefore, patients with lower anastomosis had a statistically significant impairment of their quality of life and higher Wexner score (p<0.001 for both analyses). Our study results suggested reduced neorectal capacity to be the main pathophysiological factor for the development of postoperative anorectal function impairment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Observational StudyEFFECT OF PREOPERATIVE RESPIRATORY REHABILITATION IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING CARDIAC SURGERY.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of preoperative respiratory rehabilitation on functional capacity, length of stay in intensive care unit (ICU), duration of mechanical ventilation (MV) and total hospitalization, as well as to estimate arterial blood gas (ABG) values in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Nineteen patients were included in the randomized observational study, divided into two groups: group A (intervention) and B (control). Preoperative and postoperative rehabilitation was performed in group A, and only postoperative rehabilitation in group B. ⋯ The length of hospital stay significantly correlated with preoperative rehabilitation in group A (r=0.885; p<0.0001). There was no difference in ABG parameters between the groups. The study showed that preoperative respiratory rehabilitation had an effect on reducing duration of MV and length of total hospitalization, and improved functional capacity.

ANTHROPOMETRIC MEASUREMENTS, DIETARY HABITS, SERUM LIPID AND GLUCOSE LEVELS IN RELATION TO HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AMONG ADOLESCENT BOYS AND GIRLS IN CROATIA.
The aim was to determine differences in anthropometric measurements, dietary habits, serum lipid and glucose levels in relation to high blood pressure (BP) among adolescent boys and girls in Croatia. The specific aim was to determine the effect of dietary habits and lifestyle on high BP in adolescents according to sex. The study included 260 (68.2%) adolescent girls and 121 (31.8%) boys with anthropometric data obtained (without missing values) from 246 girls and 111 boys. ⋯ Girls with high BP had a significantly higher body mass index (BMI) (p=0.020), waist circumference (WC) (p=0.002), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) (p=0.016), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) (p=0.043), hip circumference (HC) (p=0.015), triglyceride (TG) levels (p=0.021), higher prevalence of unhealthy diet at school breakfast (p=0.008) and lower prevalence of eating fish (p=0.02). Boys with high BP had a significantly higher BMI (p=0.045), WC (p=0.004), WHtR (p=0.017), WHR (p=0.022) and higher prevalence of eating meat products (p=0.015). Effective health interventions are needed to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and preventing age-related illness.

Case ReportsURINARY STONE RELATED URINARY TRACT INFECTION CAUSED BY RAOULTELLA ORNITHINOLYTICA IN A CHILD: A CASE REPORT.
Raoultella ornithinolytica is one of the three species of Raoultella. The present case report describes a two-year-old child who had complaints of discomfort and fever, and Raoultella ornithinolytica in his urinary culture. ⋯ The stone was expelled upon consultation with pediatric urology department. The patient was treated according to culture antibiotic sensitivity report and continued to be followed-up.
