A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY OF HEPATITIS B AND HEPATITIS C KNOWLEDGE AMONG DENTAL MEDICINE STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ZAGREB.
Dental health care workers, particularly dental medicine students (DMS), are at an increased risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The aim of our study was to assess the level of knowledge on HBV and HCV, estimate needlestick injury (NSI) prevalence and reporting practice in DMS at the University of Zagreb, and analyze how enrolment in obligatory and supplemental courses affects knowledge and NSI reporting practice. The knowledge was assessed by our questionnaires based on the Centers for Disease Control general handouts. ⋯ In conclusion, DMS have low levels of knowledge on important occupational pathogens and poor NSI reporting practice. Moreover, formal education in the current form has failed to significantly improve student competence and theoretical knowledge translates poorly into more conscientious injury reporting practice. We should look for a better way to increase student awareness and level of knowledge on this topic.

PLANTAR SENSATION AND BALANCE IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS WITH AND WITHOUT PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY.
The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of diabetes on plantar sense and balance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The study included 300 subjects divided into three groups: 100 T2DM patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (group 1); 100 T2DM patients without peripheral neuropathy (group 2); and 100 subjects without DM (group 3). Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Timed Up and Go test (TUG), single leg test with eyes open and closed, and plantar sensory tests were applied in the subjects. ⋯ Furthermore, the length of insulin therapy showed positive correlation with plantar sense and TUG test and negative correlation with BBS (p<0.05). In conclusion, DM has an effect on plantar sense and balance, and there is a relation between the duration of DM and balance problems. Balance problems are observed more often in patients with neuropathy.

Case ReportsSPONTANEOUS RESOLUTION OF A NONFUNCTIONING PITUITARY ADENOMA OVER ONE-MONTH PERIOD: A CASE REPORT.
Spontaneous resolution of nonfunctioning pituitary adenoma after hemorrhagic apoplexy is a rare clinical entity of unknown etiology and is defined as disappearance of a tumor without any specific treatment. Here we present a 54-year-old male patient who presented with acute onset of severe headache, vomiting, photophobia, and sonophobia. He was referred to brain computed tomography, which showed a 16x12x16 mm tumor mass located in the sellar region with signs of hemorrhage. ⋯ Preoperative MRI was performed one month after the first one and disclosed normal pituitary gland without any signs of adenoma. Our case is remarkable due to the fact that spontaneous remission of pituitary adenoma occurred within the first month, which is the shortest interval reported to date. Our case highlights the importance of conservative therapy as the first-line treatment for pituitary apoplexy in the absence of neurological impairment, since spontaneous remission may occur in a short time interval.

THE SAFETY AND EFFICACY OF ROBOT-ASSISTED STEREOTACTIC BIOPSY FOR BRAIN GLIOMA: EARLIEST INSTITUTIONAL EXPERIENCES AND EVALUATION OF LITERATURE.
Robot-assisted brain tumor biopsy is becoming one of the most important innovative technologies in neurosurgical practice. The idea behind its engagement is to advance the safety and efficacy of the biopsy procedure, which is much in demand when planning the management of endocranial tumor pathology. Herein, we provide our earliest institutional experiences in utilizing this mesmerizing technology. ⋯ In conclusion, considering the preliminary results of our early experiences, robot-assisted tumor biopsy was proven to be a feasible and accurate procedure when surgery for brain glioma was not an option. It may increase safety and precision, without expanding surgical time, being similarly effective when compared to standard stereotactic and manual biopsy. Using this method to provide accurate sampling for histopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis is a safe and easy way to determine management strategies and outcome of different types of brain glioma.
