Comparison of 3D phase-sensitive inversion-recovery and 2D inversion-recovery MRI at 3.0 T for the assessment of late gadolinium enhancement in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
To compare free-breathing three-dimensional (3D) phase-sensitive inversion recovery (PSIR) with breath-holding two-dimensional (2D) IR sequences to determine which is better for detecting and characterizing myocardial late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients. ⋯ Three-dimensional PSIR sequence yields higher image contrast, better image quality, and greater detection ability for LGE lesions than 2D-IR sequence.

Non-contrast enhanced MRI for evaluation of breast lesions: comparison of non-contrast enhanced high spectral and spatial resolution (HiSS) images versus contrast enhanced fat-suppressed images.
The aims of this study were to evaluate high spectral and spatial resolution (HiSS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis of breast cancer without the injection of contrast media by comparing the performance of precontrast HiSS images to that of conventional contrast-enhanced, fat-suppressed, T1-weighted images on the basis of image quality and in the task of classifying benign and malignant breast lesions. ⋯ Precontrast HiSS imaging is a promising approach for showing lesion morphology without blooming and other artifacts caused by contrast agents. HiSS images could be used to guide subsequent dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI scans to maximize spatial and temporal resolution in suspicious regions. HiSS MRI without contrast agent injection may be particularly important for patients at risk for contrast-induced nephrogenic systemic fibrosis or allergic reactions.

Evaluation of analgesic effect of equimolar mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide inhalation during percutaneous biopsy of focal liver lesions: a double-blind randomized study.
Percutaneous liver biopsy for tumors performed under local anesthesia is still a painful procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the patient's reaction and the analgesic efficacy and safety of an equimolar mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide (EMONO) inhalation. ⋯ This study shows that patients receiving an EMONO had a higher analgesic control after percutaneous biopsy of focal liver lesions than patients in the placebo group. Moreover, acceptance of additional biopsies was higher in the EMONO group.

Reproducibility and validity of lung density measures from cardiac CT Scans--The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) Lung Study.
Cardiac computed tomographic (CT) scans for the assessment of coronary calcium scores include approximately 70% of the lung volume and may be useful for the quantitative assessment of emphysema. The reproducibility of lung density measures from cardiac computed tomography and their validity compared to lung density measures from full-lung scans is unknown. ⋯ Although full-lung imaging is preferred for the quantification of emphysema, the lung imaging from paired cardiac computed tomography provided a reproducible and valid quantitative assessment of emphysema in a population-based sample.

Enhancing lesions of the brain: intraindividual crossover comparison of contrast enhancement after gadobenate dimeglumine versus established gadolinium comparators.
Gadobenate dimeglumine (Gd-BOPTA) possesses a two-fold higher T1 relaxivity compared to other available gadolinium contrast agents. The study was conducted to evaluate the benefits of this increased relaxivity for MR imaging of intracranial enhancing brain lesions. ⋯ The greater T1 relaxivity of Gd-BOPTA permits improved visualization of intracranial enhancing lesions compared to conventional gadolinium agents.
