Evaluation of simethicone-coated cellulose as a negative oral contrast agent for abdominal CT.
Because of the increased clinical use of computed tomography (CT) for imaging the abdominal vasculature and urinary tract, there is a need for negative contrast agents. The authors undertook this study to assess the suitability of simethicone-coated cellulose (SCC), which is approved for use as an oral contrast agent in sonography, for use as a negative oral contrast agent in abdominal CT. ⋯ SCC is effective as a negative oral contrast agent for small bowel marking at CT.

Tutor versus computer: a prospective comparison of interactive tutorial and computer-assisted instruction in radiology education.
This study compared the educational effectiveness of an interactive tutorial with that of interactive computer-assisted instruction (CAI) and determined the effects of personal preference, learning style, and level of training. ⋯ Interactive tutorial and optimal CAI are both effective instructional formats. The tutorial was marginally but significantly more effective at teaching factual knowledge, an effect unrelated to students' year of training, learning style, or stated enjoyment of CAI. The superiority of the tutorial is expected to increase when it is compared with commercially expedient CAI modules.

Medical students and radiology residents: can they learn as effectively with the same educational materials?
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of resident-prepared, independent-learning materials for teaching chest radiology to medical students. ⋯ Independent study of resident-prepared chest radiology teaching cases increased medical student knowledge for at least 2 or 4 weeks after instruction. Although starting at lower knowledge levels, students experienced gains in knowledge comparable to those of residents, suggesting the same materials can be used to teach both students and residents.

Chest radiology case exchange program: a paradigm for resident teaching and independent resident learning.
The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of resident-prepared, independent learning cases in teaching residents chest radiology. ⋯ Independent study of resident-prepared chest radiology teaching cases increases the resident's knowledge for as long as 3 months after instruction.

Comparison of conventional and computed radiography: assessment of image quality and reader performance in skeletal extremity trauma.
Reader performance and image quality wee assessed for standard film, computed film, and computer monitor radiography viewing formats in the evaluation of skeletal extremity trauma. ⋯ No statistically significant differences were seen in reader performance among viewing formats. The computed film format received the highest quality rating, and workstation viewing times were longest.
