Randomized Controlled TrialProtective effect of N-acetylcysteine on oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity in patients with colorectal and gastric cancers: A randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled, clinical trial.
Neuropathy is one of the most prevalent and dose-limiting side effects of platinum chemotherapeutic agents. N-acetylcysteine is an antioxidant thiol which is able to increase whole blood concentration of glutathione, which may be protective against chemotherapy-induced neuropathy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of N-acetylcysteine on neurotoxicity induced by oxaliplatin in patients with gastric or colorectal cancers. ⋯ The results of this study showed that N-acetylcysteine could reduce the incidence of the neuropathy induced by oxaliplatin and delay its occurrence in patients with gastric or colorectal cancers.

Evaluation of urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and urinary kidney injury molecule-1 as biomarkers of renal function in cancer patients treated with cisplatin.
Cisplatin-associated acute kidney injury (AKI) is the major limitation to the use of cisplatin-based chemotherapy regimens. Serum creatinine as a traditional marker did not increase in a timely enough fashion in AKI patients. Therefore, recently, the novel markers such as neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) were considered for early detection of AKI. The aim of this study was to compare the sensitivity and specificity of urinary NGAL and KIM-1 with serum creatinine in cisplatin related AKI. ⋯ Our findings showed that the changes in urinary NGAL-creatinine and KIM-1-creatinine ratios, 24 h after cisplatin administration can be utilized to predict AKI in cisplatin recipients.

Suggestion of Tunisia's medical oncologist in the management of breast cancer during COVID-19 pandemic.
Cancer patients are at higher risk to be infected with COVID-19 and to develop a more severe form. Breast cancer (BC) treatments, including chemotherapy (CT), targeted therapy and immunotherapy can weaken the immune system and possibly cause lung problems. For all these reasons Salah Azaiez Institute's department of Medical Oncology took drastic actions to protect patients. In this article we will discuss protocol adjustments taken during the COVID-19 pandemic for breast cancer patients.

Practical strategies to manage cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic: Saudi Oncology Pharmacy Assembly Experts recommendations.
During COVID-19 pandemic, cancer patients are considered one of the most vulnerable to infection since they tend to have advanced age, multiple comorbidities, and are often immunosuppressed by their cancer or therapy. Hence, the Saudi Oncology Pharmacy Assembly has issued recommendations to reduce the frequency of cancer patients' visits to oncology centers during the pandemic while maintaining the access to cancer therapy and minimize the risk of exposure to coronavirus disease. ⋯ In conclusion, delivering cancer care during the COVID-19 pandemic carries significant challenges. This paper addressed suggestions to properly manage cancer patients during difficult times. Implementing changes in practice mandates a national collaborative effort from different sectors to guarantee the quality and continuity of care. The SOPA expert panel developed these recommendations, to ultimately contribute in maintaining access to cancer therapy while minimizing the risk of COVID-19 exposure.

Current state assessment survey of challenges of pharmacogenomics within oncology pharmacy practice.
The goal of this survey was to identify opportunities for health systems to increase implementation and adoption of oncology-focused pharmacogenomics services. ⋯ Oncology pharmacists reported substantial challenges in implementing a pharmacogenomic program. Future efforts to assist in developing pharmacogenomic efforts should focus on increasing pharmacist involvement, expanding education and training, and improving clinical decision support tools.
