Review[Need for the role of the patient's family members at the intensive care unit].
To know the current status for the role of family members in the intensive care unit and its evolution, analyzing areas for improvement and learning about the nursing role. ⋯ Solving the need for this role decreases anxiety and stress on relatives and patients. Their implication on the patient process enhances and helps professionals to know the patient's background.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study[Intensive care unit profesionals's knowledge about non invasive ventilation comparative analysis].
The literature highlights the lack of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) protocols and the variability of the knowledge of NIV between intensive care units (ICU) and hospitals, so we want to compare NIV nurses's Knowledge from 4 multipurpose ICU and one surgical ICU. ⋯ Knowledge about types of interface is very dependent on the material of the unit. More training for complications of NIV as agitation and handling secretions it is necessary.

Observational Study[Cuff pressure control at the intersinve care unit: influence of nursing professionals' training].
To analyze proper control of endotracheal cuff pressure in an intensive care unit. The specific objective is to verify whether training of nursing professionals improves monitoring endotracheal cuff pressure. ⋯ Monitoring of the endotracheal cuff pressure was inadequate before specific training of professionals. Nursing professionals training facilitates the correct measurement of the endotracheal cuff pressure, which improves patient safety.

Observational Study[Validation of EMINA and EVARUCI scales for assessing the risk of developing pressure ulcers in critical patients].
To contribute to the validation of the EMINA and EVAUCI scales for assessing the risk of pressure ulcers in the critical patient and compare their predictive capacity in this same context. ⋯ No differences were found in predictive capacity of both scales. For sensitivities>90%the scales show to be insufficiently specific in the pressure ulcer risk detection in critical patients.

Observational Study[Intraobserver reliability and internal consistency of the Behavioral Pain Scale in mechanically-ventilated patients].
The Behavioral Pain Scale (BPS) is a tool of pain assessment that often gives contradictory results when used by different raters. ⋯ The level of internal consistency of the scale is appropriate and moderate interrater agreement. For the BPS useful in clinical practice, it is imperative that nurses have prior experience with a regulated use of this tool.
